    Prop Question

Prop slip is 13% as far as I can see.

    Mercruiser 3.0 Fuel Issues

That filter, Is it flowing in the right direction ? Regardless, you don’t want it there anyway. I’d also say that they never show fully filled with fuel either.

    Mercruiser 3.0 Fuel Issues

The fact is that if it’s a marine 3.0. As said, it has a filter in the fuel pump. And many many many of them are in use all around the world, just as they are. But if you were fussy, a marine water separating filter is a good idea. But I’d still ask why you thought you needed a in line filter...

    Mercruiser 3.0 Fuel Issues

You could have one of the proper water separating ones fitted, I suppose. They go on the bulkhead in line with the tank
  5. Q

    Mercruiser 3.0 Fuel Issues

Agree with AD. The filter you’ve put on is no good for that engine. I’d maybe ask to rewind a little. What was the issue symptoms that made you do this in the first place ?

Mercruiser engine revs from 3200 rmp to 3400 rpm and back

Check your temperature sensor isn’t making it run rich perhaps. Likely has an IAC too. But I’d be more inclined to think it’s a fuel delivery or quality issue first off.

    Corrosion on drive

Got you. Sure sounds like a galvanic continuity issue then Taff. If you’re using her in the sea…I’d start with changing the anodes over from the very “general use” originally supplied aluminium dual purpose ones, to the zincs. That certainly used to be the case at least. But even still. I’d...

    Corrosion on drive

Definitely not overheating that’s causing this ?
  9. Q

    Boat prop issue

You’ll need more than a 19” for sure, if the gearing is as it was when it left the factory. I’m surprised it’s only doing those rpms even.

Bravo 3 Metal Chips on Magnetic Drain Plug

Some of that doesn’t look like it’s metallic…but the bottom one looks like it for sure..and perhaps more concerning is that it looks like it’s been coloured by heat. Or it may just be the photo. Looks a blue colour to it perhaps ? How does the oil smell ? Generally there isn’t too much, if any...

    Transmission Spewing Water

I’m not sure that a leaking stern gland would throw water like that. I’d see if it does the same thing with the same level of leakage, with the engine in neutral, revving and the boat not moving. If it does…it’s not the stern gland.

    Mercury 5 hp outboard motor

Ah. Fair play. Just looked at picture properly. Can see that’s the back end of the engine there. Thought I was looking at the carb initially. Not the head. Spot on.
  13. Q

    Is my fuel pump dead?

Could be a few things. Oil pressure sensor (that activate fuel pump), choke sticking on or a restriction in the fuel line. Usually around the check valve.

1992 6 hp 2 stroke dies when reeves increased

    Typically a carb clean required.

Evinrude 130HP switching from 3 blade to 4 blade

No worries. If it helps you any. I’ve found a huge difference in ability between props, in terms of your idea of sitting on the plane with less rpm. Quick example. I have an enertia 20” 3 blade for one of my boats and a tempest 19” 3 blade. Despite the enertia being more pitch…the tempest plus...

    cover prop for winter?

Agree chris. I’ve personally never known anyone it’s happened to. But have heard of guys saying it has or they knew of it. You’d need to be a hell of an unlucky guy for it. It would need to freeze the area of trapped water at its surface and solid…for it not to be able to expand into the rest of...

What type of oil and lube to use

That’s great info Lou. Perhaps not too far off what might be expected between the two. One being a straight 40 and the other a 25w40. Suppose it would depend on hours and type of use between them too. Since the 25w40 synthetic blend quicksilver came available and since I’ve owned the boat with...

What type of oil and lube to use

To be honest. The rock oil I compared it to was a 15w40 and a well known top quality brand here for decades. It may be the case that the Quicksilver oil is just as poor as many others….but certainly in comparison to the rock oil…it was particularly poor in comparison, for degrading. Same boat...

    cover prop for winter?

I’d say drive down and turned slightly to starboard to stop the bellows stretching too much. But if you have a situation like I used to have…where the boat yard she’s kept in ask you to leave the drive up far enough so they can move the boat on its trailer when required…get a prop bag or cover...
