What Prop on my Yamaha 9.9

What is the engine on ?

    Wayyyy over propped???

The numbers here don’t really make sense. Despite that, natural instinct would suggest that a 19 shouldn’t be too far off what you need. Or within a couple inches anyway. No way it should have a 13” on it. You’d think. Are you trimming up ? Is the boat bow heavy with gear and bow ploughing...

    Small prop to avoid damage?

Huge diameter prop for an alpha. One might imagine that a smaller diameter with a similar pitch, might see you better. Get your rpms more into the correct rpm range too.

Need prop for low speed manoeuvres

Hi there. As said…likely not a prop issue. Good idea to remember to keep some momentum in the boat, when coming alongside in a wind. The minute you stop moving that hull through the water, you’ve lost control in conditions like that. Keep the boat moving through the water and she will behave...

5.7 GXI-A Hesitation and loss of WOT

When they go..they go, I’m afraid. Not sure cleaning can usually sort them. If it’s not that…it will let you down soon. That’s for sure.

    2008 Mercury 50 HP 2 Stroke Issues

Do a compression test on it. Will tell a story, I’m sure. One way or the other. How’s your 2 stroke oil mix ?

    VP 290 Duo prop Ratios

Hi Sam. I’m quite familiar with these boats. I’ve known and been on one a family friend had ages ago. Also familiar with similar U.K. boats around that size and with same engine and drive. Like a few sealines I know. B5 props would be what’s expected on that set up, all being well. Few wee...

Mercury 4 Stroke 115hp Charging Issue?

It’s the most you can rev a modern merc outboard in nuetral these days. Or not far off it. Limiter is there to protect from damage. Smart craft gauges are gauges that tell you additional date from engine. Like fuel use. Temps and pressures that you wouldn’t get on normal gauges. Has a wee...

Kill switch or in gear ? Sorry to ask. Both of these will do what you are having

5.7 GXI-A Hesitation and loss of WOT

A months wages on it being the diz cap. Almost certain of it. Standard and typical symptoms. Thee most common fault on these engines by miles and miles. Won’t be the timing. That’s controlled by ecu and won’t have moved if it ran right before.
  14. Q

    5.0 GXi Rough Idle

Was this replacing the exact same engine before it ? Was the ecu from previously used ? I’d check the injectors were doing what they should and that it’s not running rich thinking it’s cold too. Check the plugs for water perhaps too. In case your risers or manifolds are slightly weeping in...

5.0 Litre GXI Going Into Limp Mode

My Diz cap failing would show miss fire faults when it was starting to give in. You may have a control voltage issue too though. I’d test for 5v at all the crucial locations

Sounds like water in the fuel. What plugs did you put in it ? Got to be iridium in these.

    Help with water temp

Don’t suppose you have put a closed cooling 140 thermostat in it instead of the 160 for raw water cooled ?
