    Breaker bar rotating 2.5

Brilliant chris. Had no idea about this. So we’re these branded with merc or marine maker for boats ? So didn’t know about this. Being a European fella, and having had a few french motors, I would hazard a guess at these being based on the 1100/1200-1300/1400cc car engines that used to be found...

2005 VP 5.0Gxi 2500-3000rpm max. Low pressure Pump 0 psi

I think we most likely it might be the Diz. Or fuel is crappy, or the check valve or a boat of other restrictions in the supply. But if your valve is spraying fuel out when pressed in, you should get some sort of reading of fuel pressure surely ?

Tach at 0 when cranking 5.0 MPI

Often a tell tale sign is if she kicks for a second when you release the key. What I’ve found anyway.

    Breaker bar rotating 2.5

Amazing Chris. Had no idea they were around late 80’s. Fair play. Always happy to be schooled by a man like yourself ! But more than that…Renault engines ! This is all news to me. What was the deal there. Had no idea about this. What were they based on ? Wee 1.8l 4 pots ?

    Islander prop problems

Hi. From what I know and at this late hour here…I can tell you that I have it in my head that a boat around that size and with the 4 pot car derived 145 engine…there was usually two options on prop with the likely gear ratio she should have. Would be a 14x15 or a 14x17. Most likely the 17” pitch...

    Breaker bar rotating 2.5

Didn’t know there would be a 2.5 engine ever put in an 87 boat. Surely they would be long gone by 87.

Tach at 0 when cranking 5.0 MPI

100% agree with the battery thing. I go on about this loads. Anything less than a perfect battery and it won’t even try to fire when cranking. Not enough left to fire the many many other things that need power to start it.

Merc runs on one tank and starves out at idle on the other tank

Check the primer bulb is going the right direction. Typical symptoms of that

    2017 Merc 75 4 stroke same as 115?

Hi. It is the same. But it’s not so much to do with restrictions and all that old school stuff. It’s in the ecu mapping for these. The 115 has much more rpm from it. 75 has the lowest mapping. Then the 90…then the 100, then the 115…then the 115 pro Xs. All the same engine…different rpm output. My

    Powerhead interchangeability

Seafoam has its uses. But it can’t fix a toasted cylinder or cylinder head. Good as it is. If you’re hoping it’s going to unstick a stuck ring…it might…but very few singular stuck rings, result in zero compression. Blown heads do though.

    Other causes for prop slip?

Was id say you’re doing not too badly. You don’t want to be too low in the rpm range on the wee 3.0. Don’t strain it anymore than you need too. Already working hard. what slip numbers are you aiming for ? Because the truth is that your boat and engine aren’t realistically going to be able to...

    Other causes for prop slip?

Think he wants to reduce prop slip 😂. Most effective way to increase prop slip is More blades !

How much kicker hp do I need?

All depends on how it’s mounted and it’s height. Balance between being low enough to have the prop under the hull and high enough to be able to lift clear of the water when not in use. but I’d also say…you will ruin this stunning boat by doing this. I’d rather make sure the main engine is good...

Lack of cooling water flow at idle and low rpm.

I’d look at the oil cooler to see if it’s drawing air and losing the prime to the pump

    V/P 5.7 GI-D not reaching above 3400 rpm

Cap and rotor makes sense here. But just wondering about your 180 psi reading. Only explanation for that (given your lower results on others) would be a valve sticking or fuel or water in there perhaps.

Mercruiser 4.3 woes - help please

So in my experience…7/10 times you’ve had any amount of bad water contaminated fuel through the carb…ultimately at some point you need to take the carb off and properly clean it out. Sometimes you get lucky. mother than that…cleaning out the fuel tank the best you can won’t be good enough...
