    Usually much more likely to be water from the exhaust manifold and risers, than the head gasket. with the original post...I’d still suspect it wasn’t the head gasket, but sticking valves causing his poor compression test...after water from the manifolds.

    Hi. This guy has clearly previously had a Volvo Penta outdrive from the 80’s and assumed the alpha one has the same issues. This is a well known precaution taken with old VP drives. No need for it with these. Change the fibre washers each time and you’ll be good.

    I get that Lou. Really do. Lots of guys think the same. for me though, having worked out the wee issues and in control of them on my mpi. I just couldn’t go back to carb. So much more power and defo more efficient in standard factory like for like form. Haven’t had any issues for years now...

    I’m maybe out of touch with VP these days not having had one since my early 90’s DP. But they certainly weren’t filled from the bottom on the 290 and DPA/DPb type. Always from the top. Are you guys sure about this ?
