5.7V8 with a 1.84 alpha one gear ratio

For me. It would all depend on what 23ft maxum you have and what 5.7 v8 it has. If it’s a 250hp carb 4800rpm peak and a 23ft cruiser maxum..you might find a prop to match it (not ideal though). if it’s a 5.7 mpi 300hp and 5000 rpm thing and a 23ft cuddy or open bow...not so sure. Either way...

350 Mag MPI Horizon died at sea, cannot find the problem.

Wish I had a dollar for every time an mpi Diz cap was the source of problems like this. Good chance this is another example

Engine shutting off and bulb without pressure.

Apologies for asking the obvious, but is the fuel pipe and primer from tank to engine going in the right direction ? They only go one way. Might be way off the mark...but would make sense.

    Tahoe q7i prop

Hi Scott. My boat certainly isn’t a lightweight to be fair. It remarkably heavy for her size and style. She weighs 1400kgs dry (3100 lbs) and about 3600 lbs with fuel and a couple onboard. She is almost half a ton heavier than your average bayliner 17/18ft boat at that. She is about 8ft wide...

    Tahoe q7i prop

Ah. Got you. So it’s a carb. Rpm range will be 4400-4800. A little less lower than the mpi version then. Im not a fan of 4 blades for this sort of set up really. Can’t think I’ve known one to work well for something like this. The rev 4 is the only exception really. But need big power to turn...

    Tahoe q7i prop

If it’s an mpi. I can’t advise you enough to get a $200 vessel view mobile kit for it. Especially for getting her propped as perfectly as possible. That will give you deadly accurate rpm info to within 10 rpm of actual. Not to mention dozens of additional functions too.
  7. Q

    Tahoe q7i prop

Ah. Is it a carb ? I presumed it was an mpi at that age. And the rpm mentioned. It would be assumed perhaps likely to be a 1.47. But chance it could be a 1.62 being a little larger than my boat. Unless my boat is unusual having a 1.47 ratio. She will have a little more power than a standard 5.0...

    Tahoe q7i prop

Ah. Just saw you went to 4 blade too. That will drop your speed. Try an enertia or a tempest plus. Best of them. In my opinion

    Tahoe q7i prop

What’s your gear ratio ? Numbers are a little odd maybe if you’re getting 5000 rpm and assuming 1.47 ratio and that low speed.

    Stainless Steele or NO..

It’s definitely worth it on that engine. If it’s the command thrust it can likely take the larger and superb range of merc stainless props. I run an enertia and a tempest on my ct 115. Huge difference over the standard black max with these of same pitch. Vengeance to be avoided. Waste of time...

    Blessing in disguise

Suppose it depends what 5.0 you had. But usually get away with a couple of inches in pitch change.

Just Purchased used 175 Yamaha Outboard (Are theses good engines)

Totally agree with this. Not sure I’m aware of many or any examples of these v6 particular oil injection failing when looked after. Nothing like as dangerous as the merc V6 versions. Probably about the only one I would trust

    Properly Fogging a Suzuki df250

I would definitely avoid fogging by way of spraying fogging oil into the intake, on a modern engine like this. Never a good idea. Can play havoc with sensors. I run a mix of 2 stroke through the engine before storage. Do this on my MPi V8 inboard and 2016 mercury 115 outboard too.

1992 Mercruiser 4.3 Alpha One Gen II has water in oil after rebuild.

Just a thought. May not be the case...but did you rebuild the same marine engine or is this a engine from a car ? If it’s not a marine engine...something in my head says that the cam may allow an overlap of valves and their operation. Small chance of there being a moment of taking in water from...

1992 Mercruiser 4.3 Alpha One Gen II has water in oil after rebuild.

Head gasket suspect perhaps or a frost crack between the two cylinders ? Edit...just saw you meant frozen as in locked. Not actually frozen.

1992 Mercruiser 4.3 Alpha One Gen II has water in oil after rebuild.

Hi. So it’s likely one of two things here. your original post says you replaced the exhaust and riser gaskets. That won’t stop water ingress to the engine, if there has been frost damage to the actual manifold/riser. As you’ll know, cylinder 4 and 6 are right next to each other too. So it’s...

    2007 Gxi-G 5.0 Rough Idle Issue

I don’t think you’re getting this at all. I can’t explain any further. I asked how that could possibly happen. No one has told me an answer. The question of whether an mpi or a tbi has a throttle body was never asked or in question. We all know it does. The question was...how the hell would fuel...
