    The two wire motor should turn with + to blue and - to green.----And vice versa.----The 3 wire motor just used a solenoid for the UP motion.-----The 2 wire motor uses 2 relays.----Not sure why you ordered the wrong motor !

    Clutch dog is marked with " prop end " I believe.----If prop is OK then check shift rod height.----Someone may have turned the shift rod and unaware of shift adjustment.

    I'm trying to search for information on a 1999 Johnson 130hp outboard motor.

    A big displacement V-4 loop charged motor.----Large bearings.---Electronic ignition.-----Thirsty on fuel.-----If you just bought it , install a new impeller.----Record compression readings for future reference.----Does this motor run for you ?

    Maximum timing advance is most important.-----Timing where throttle plates open is important.-----Where the timing is at smooth idle does NOT matter !-----This motor only runs on top 2 cylinders.----Bottom 2 carburetors kick in at around 1800 RPM.

    Lower Unit Gear Oil Running Temp ?

    The gearcase on an outboard appears to be water cooled when operating.-----A temperature gauge on the gear oil is severe overkill.------Take lower unit apart.----Inspect gears / bearings.----Install seal kit .----Pressure test fill with good oil and go boating.

    Post compression numbers tested today.----Not 6 months ago.-----And does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on each lead.----Sounds like it is running on 3 of 4 cylinders.-----Changing the prop to get 1000 RPM more is the wrong approach.

    Those condensers were not original to 1955 !!----The reason is anyone's guess.-----Likely the motor was tuned in the 1960's and coils were still good then.

    Does spark jump a gap of at least 1/4"when it won't start ?----If not pull the flywheel.----Coils might be old and cracked.

    The 73 models shifted to FORWARD with a down motion of the shift rod.------The 78 model shifted to FORWARD with an up motion of the shift rod.-----It is not a direct swap.----Some knowledge is required to make it work.

    Nothing wrong with a few drops of ordinary gear oil mixed in with premium blend.----Nothing at all.----As I have said many times the lubrication in outboards is a big mystery !

    Running out of fuel.-----Inspected for cracked coils ?----These motors often have 2 cracked coils or a set of new ones already.----Does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or more on both leads ?
