Links at top - shopping on iBoats?

Thanks, Scott. I seem to remember buying some boating paraphernalia on the iBoats shopping site 10 years ago or so, so that explains that.

    Scupper below water line?¿

Why would a manufacturer think it's a great idea to unnecessarily put holes below the water line? Sounds like a disaster waiting for a time to happen. All one needs is for a hose to break, then glug-glug...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Yes - now that I can see that on a decent display, things look quite wonky. Like the input pinion has some parts of the heel of the teeth missing possibly. Tr@v1s, could you take a more clear picture of this area so we can see the detail? Also, a clear picture of the rollers at the top of that...

    Oil selection

While the marine engines do indeed have cooler water jacket temps than their automotive counterparts, I can assure you the oil temps - especially on those who don't have oil coolers - run much hotter than those in automobiles. This is where 100% synthetic shines. The diesel-oriented oil has...

Links at top - shopping on iBoats?

Please forgive me if this has been discussed ad-nauseum before, but I've noticed over the past couple of months that the SHOP, BOATS FOR SALE links at the top of the page are inop. I'd love to contribute to those who make this forum possible by patronizing them, but it seems this forum's...

    Screeching Noise from Frankenstein 383

If the coupler were spinning, engine speed would increase and boat speed would decrease until shortly later you would go nowhere and smell the burning rubber. Sounds like you are on the right track.

    Oil selection

OEM recommends SAE30 synthetic. Good luck finding that anywhere. I use Rotella T6 15w40.

    SX-M repainting tips needed

I am not sure I understand… the primer does not leave a residue or remove aluminum. It chemically etches through whatever oxide layer there may be and attaches to the aluminum chemically as well. Any conversion which is done from the reaction is indeed what we want, because paint won’t stick to...

Question regarding 1999 Volvo Penta 5.0GL and power to the fuel pump relay

My younger self would never have imagined the reality. I guess those of us who go through it should feel blessed somehow. LOL

Question regarding 1999 Volvo Penta 5.0GL and power to the fuel pump relay

Sorry - old age made me miss that you did jump 30 and 87, and the pump ran.

Question regarding 1999 Volvo Penta 5.0GL and power to the fuel pump relay

Yes, you will not get the pump running until you turn the key to start. Once started, the voltage from the alternator will sustain that relay coil while the engine is running. There are diodes in both the orange lead from the start relay and the alternator which prevent any power back feeding...

2003 Glastron VP 5.0 GL Overheat issue

If that were mine, I'd MIG weld a nut to what's left. The heat from welding also helps with freeing the stuckness many times. No welder? Find a friend with one. Otherwise, lots of praying and heat as Lou mentioned is your best bet.

Question regarding 1999 Volvo Penta 5.0GL and power to the fuel pump relay

Measure the socket at pin 30 and 87 - there should be battery voltage on one of them when the key is on. This is the supply side of the relay. The other pin (that does not have battery voltage) will go the the + side of the fuel pump. Try using a jumper wire between pin 30 and 87 of the...

    torque or angle torque

I have often used a digital angle gauge from Hazard Frought that I had purchased years ago... https://www.harborfreight.com/digital-angle-gauge-63615.html Can be used for so much more than just the ones made for that job.GM never published a torque spec for the Vortec, from what I have...

    One last try

Things go North eventually no matter what. 20 years ago I learned how to wakeboard after 20 years of water skiing and knee boarding. I'd likely struggle to stay up for 5 minutes on two skis today. I don't know that my wife would want to learn how to tow a skier... one of the two best friends...

    SX-M repainting tips needed

There are two ways to paint aluminum; the right way and the wrong way. Scott outlined the right way. Some people even use Alodine as the first coat on Aluminum. I've done both in the past, but I never kept the boats long enough to be able to give any input on whether or not the Alodine made...

It is a major boating holiday.

Our normal lake down the road 10 minutes from home was unusually empty on Sunday. Like less than half of what I would have suspected, and was just as full as what I normally see on any other weekend. Large lake about an hour away, just west of this state's capital city which usually has traffic...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Did you check the lube level before first float after you purchased this boat? Could be that the previous owner drained it but never refilled it.

    Cicada

Our indoor/outdoor cat loves to play with his wasp friends. I watched him find a wasp nest up inside the back end of the middle square tubing on the front of the boat trailer, start pawing at it, watched his friends come out and play with him, and they all had a great time. Getting stung in...
