    Modern PT lumber

There are several types of pressure treated lumber. The cheapest is rated for above ground use. It has the lowest PT retention level. Lumber rated for ground contact is more rot resistant, and only a bit more $. Lumber rated for freshwater docks has more retention, say 10X than ground...

Spark plugs and cap replacement interval

Gee, I thought my sterndrive ran well, also. I went fishing in the ocean and it blew so hard that saltwater from the bilge splashed up under the plastic cover, past the spark arrestor and stalled the engine. It started up and ran fine, but it spooked me, so I babied it all the way back into...

    Mercury 2-Stroke Oils

I would recommend that you don't use any non-Merc TCW-III oil. They may be OK, but why mess around. You might check to see if the OMC DI oil is compatible with Optimax. I would expect it will. If it were me, I would ask the dealer that sold you the oil with the clumps.

    Prop problem

Not to discredit Utube, but aluminum props do not loose anywhere near 25% of their pitch. That would turn a 21P aluminum prop into a 16P prop. I have always heard that aluminum props flex a bit under load but have never witnessed it.

I have a question about the marine navigation system

Check the connections for power and antenna to the nav system. Look for corrosion, causing resistance.

    Prop problem

OK, you might check your prop shaft for straightness. When SS props hit rocks, the prop shaft can be bent. Aluminum props usually break and protect the prop shaft.

    Prop problem

Gee, How about buying a new prop with the same pitch and style. An aluminum version will be about the cost of the rehub, and you will not need to drive.

Do waverunners have low oil pressure shutoff system?

That is obviously a good idea. However, the guy driving was the owners grandaughter's boyfriend. He was not read in to that idea.

Merc 350 bolt v 2 barrel carb fluctuating RPMS

Gee, if you are going to tie a boat the dock, and go WOT, you had better be right about the boat being secure, or a serious accident will happen. Wouldn't it be better to get a helper and take the boat out on the water, where you can run WOT, and have the helper drive the boat?

Do waverunners have low oil pressure shutoff system?

No owners manual. He is currently changing the oil, as it is time. Unfortunately, the guy driving it at the time of the stall did not mention an alarm. I do not know where the oil leak was. The oil filter was very rusted, but I did not see any oil stains on it. The gasket on the oil filter...

    No Spark after Stator Replacement

Is the new CDI stator compatible with the OEM switchboxes? Also, the OEM switchboxes needed particular stator wires and trigger wires. These were banded together to keep them connected to the same switchbox. Does the CDI module have anything like that? According to my '93 Merc V6 wiring...

Mercontrol Wiring to 1978 Mercury 500 Thunderbolt

Usually the engine wiring harnesses are too far gone to reinsulate them, as the conductor lasts longer that the insulation, but not forever. Also, check the quick disconnect plug. Wires like to break inside them.

    Older Mercury 8 Hp outboard

A serial number will get you the parts list on the crowleymarine site. Some small Mercs are made by different manufacturers, so if you do not find the parts you need, you might look into that possibility. ie I had a camping generator made by Homelite. Parts were real hard to find. It turned...

Merc 350 bolt v 2 barrel carb fluctuating RPMS

The classic reason for rpm fluctuation is an air leak into the intake manifold. In your case however, that doesn't sound like an air leak into the manifold. It also does not sound like fuel supply issues or anything else I am familiar with. Maybe the carb bowl is overflowing and the motor is...

Do waverunners have low oil pressure shutoff system?

My neighbor has a 2001 WR. It stalled and was towed in. It looks like it has minimal motor oil in the block. Would the low oil pressure caused the engine to stall as a safety measure?

Mercontrol Wiring to 1978 Mercury 500 Thunderbolt

Replacement of the engine harness is usually a good idea at this age of th wiring. Wiring harnesses should be avail on the web. Try surplusunlimited. Check the boat side of the wiring as well. Those harnesses are also avail, but more costly.
