    Ouch! had you torn the LU apart before? If not it may of been (hopefully) a residue??? I just re-read the whole adventure and nothing about a tear down of the LU so I suggest to change the oil and run it to see if it continues

    Cars nowa days are so well tuned Co poisoning in a ventilated area is not very common, Diesel engines on the other hand.............

    Welcome to IBoats, The rod in the middle leg does not go left to right, but up end down by the interlock arm (#63) maybe its misaligned or missing? Just so you know; you posted in the Mercury form and yours is a Force, next time post your question in the Force forum (you'll get more replies :)...

    I removed the plug-bolt and installed a grease-nipple, boy that thing was empty (25+ years old) when it was full it actually came out between the two halves (I expected to blow the seals lol)

    YES, the battery should be load tested & battery-cable / connectors checked. But intermittent start and/or crank could be your ignition-switch, sometime spraying a little bit of WD40 in the switch does wonders

    As I asked earlier; did you disconnect the "kill?" wire? (safety switch) Check all the wire connectors on the trigger & stator wires the tend to break under the shrink tube

    Check the fuel pump is may need new parts? when it is running sqeeze the primer bulb does it stay running?
