    83 - 20hp-30/35 conversion

I’m with Racerone on this one. It is an easier swap but not as convenient The primer solenoid rarely fails and when it does it’s easy to repair.

70 HP vs 90 HP Evinrude: Which to Buy?

Well it sounds like your transom will be capable and you have done a lot of work on this boat. In my eyes the 70 would be the way to go. They were far more reliable as far as I’m concerned. It’s really a crap shoot either way when buying an old motor. Whichever way you go give them a good going...

70 HP vs 90 HP Evinrude: Which to Buy?

I’m not familiar with that boat but at 15’ I’m curious if its rated for such a large motor. What is your transom hight? Is there still and info plate with H.P. rating and weight capacity with number of people? I believe racerone question was have the motors previously been used in salt or fresh...

    Help & Analysis: 1988 Johnson 6 HP 2 Stroke

Yes the theory is the higher rpms would burn more efficiently and a create less pollution. The unburned fuel and oil in the older 2 cycle motors is for the most part the reason they are banned from use in smaller bodies of water. Just out of curiosity how much oil are you adding to your fuel...

    Johnson Kill switch

I don’t see why not unless there is a problem with the currant key switch. If there is your problem will still be there. If your just adding a lanyard you should be ok. A better solution would be to remove your stripped out screws so you have access to your control box. It is a PITA job but...

What am I looking at here?

Looks like a whole in the crank case to me and I’m looking at that crank shaft but I have had a few cold ones. 🍺

    1993 Evinrude 150 Intruder compression

I have seen them run just fine with 80 psi I’m just saying it could be a bit on the worn out side. With an even 90 across the board I would want to check again with a different gauge just to be sure.

    1993 Evinrude 150 Intruder compression

It’s low but even. Likely a very high hour motor. It’s a gamble in my eyes. May be worth checking again with a different gauge. Best of luck

    Help & Analysis: 1988 Johnson 6 HP 2 Stroke

Any new to you motor needs a water pump impeller at the very least so you know for sure it going to be ok and sometimes things wear out and the whole pump kit is needed. Also it’s a good idea to change the oil in the lower unit including the washers on the drain and fill plugs. Pumps are not...

40 hp evinrude (year unknown) selectric shift model. HELP setting points and timing!

Agreed I thought you were going to clean the carb and report back? Your finger is in the correct spot. That info was in post 32. Now move on to post 36 and see where that gets you. If you haven’t cleaned the carb then you need to do it. If that motor sat for 5 years there is no doubt there is...

40 hp evinrude (year unknown) selectric shift model. HELP setting points and timing!

Is this motor new to you? Was it running ok before the no spark issue? It sounds like you on the right track with the points so I’m wondering if you have other problems.

    1977 Evinrude 35hp Corrosion

Im thinking may get a few more good years out that block before the gasket sealing surface is compromised. But as mentioned it really should come apart to help unsure any chance at long term survival. If you don’t break anything you may get away with reusing everything after its been cleaned...

This coming out of 1975 Johnson 115 lower unit.

That could be just very old oil As Racerone says a pressure test is needed.

    1960 Evinrude 18

In my eyes don’t fix what’s not broken. It’s normal to see an oil sheen in a barrel especially at 25:1. Those motors sell in my area Cape Cod Ma for around $300 to $400 but as with anything it’s worth what someone is willing to pay. Condition is everything and it sounds like this one is in...

1977 Evinrude 175hp. Is it worth fixing?

On the right track. Get some lube in the cylinders for your spark test even it it’s just Wd-40. And have fun with the project.
