    86 Johnson 28 Surging

I’m not sure how I missed that. You did say it has a new prop. So how about the mounting hight? It does sound like it’s catching air and that could be because it mounted to high.

    86 Johnson 28 Surging

Sounds like your prop is slipping. Or you may be right about it not being mounted at the correct hight. The cavitation plate should be inline with the lowest point if the hull. If it is then check for a spun hub in the prop.

    40HP Johnson Tilt/Trim

Put an add in the wanted section of Craigslist. A buddy of mine picked one up for $25.00 doing that. I have also heard that the smaller of the 2 CMC units will work for a 40hp even thought they are rated for max 35hp. I guess their web site even states this. Best of luck

1969 20hp Johnson sea horse high revs with no propulsion when accelerating

In most cases it’s very hard to spin a prop with a shot hub by hand. Thats why it’s only slipping at high rpms.

    Broken 1985 Johnson 200 GT

Your goals are impressive and it’s a shame there are not more people that think like you in the world. Good things will happen to good people. All the Best on your project.

    Broken 1985 Johnson 200 GT

That’s some great advice. Unless of course your up for the challenge have a somewhat local machine shop available to you and have the time to tear it down and start over. Maybe that’s what your into. Best of luck what ever you decide.

1997 Evinrude v4 115 "insufficient fuel flow" alarm?

The tank vent can cause a fuel deficiency. Im not saying that it was the problem but yes it is a possibility. When the vent is closed it can’t pull fuel after all the air in the tank is gone.

    1964 Johnson JW-19M Restoration project

That kind of grime is an excellent preservative😂. It seems to prevent corrosion and paint oxidation. It sounds like this is going to clean up nice. Please come back with some pics when your done. Best.

understanding idle on 1971 Johnson 50 hp

Those fumes will indeed cause you problems. As for your idle as you know the throttle plate remains closed until about 1/4 throttle maybe a bit less at which time timing start to advance as well. Under the welch plug there are 3 tiny holes that let fuel in to mix with a preset amount of air...

    76 Evinrude 15Hp

Sorry got tied up. How did you make out? Not sure about ohm range numbers off the top of my head. Swapping coils to see if no spark follows is just a quick check. If it were me and this motor has not had any maintenance I would just pull the flywheel and replace everything and start fresh...

1979 Evinrude 35 hp Water Pump Issue

It is possible that he didn’t have the water tubes lined up. I agree 3” is not much and you could try using a trash can. Also agree that you could take it back to the guy that obviously didn’t check his work. Best

Temperature switch circuit 2000 Johnson 150hp

compression numbers sound low to me but at least they are even so maybe it’s just the head gaskets that got cooked. If it were me I think it would be worth pulling the heads and having a peek at what you have.

    1958 Johnson 5.5 L/U gear advice

Yea if you have the means of replacing them that would be best in the long haul. My concern would be chipping of the eroded areas. Just my opinion though. Best

Unable to start and no water out the telltale

Sorry now that I’m thinking about it you probably have the carb with the plastic top correct? For some reason I was thinking it was an 85 in which case the plug would be right on the top in plain sight. Try turning the needle out another’s 1/4 for a full 1 1/2 turns and start from there.

Unable to start and no water out the telltale

Thanks for the compression values. They sound ok and now that’s out of the mix. When you rebuilt the carb did you remove the welch plugs and clean the very small passages? How many turns out did you set your needles after reassembled? Sounds like your getting close.
