Building a 50's OMC powerhead, to hone or not to hone?

To be honest I would mic the cylinders to be sure they a round and bore if needed. But if your not up for that at the very least hone them.

Unable to start and no water out the telltale

To much choke will flood the engine. see post #11 Compression test will tell us a lot. if you don’t have good compression you can pull that cord all day long and get nowhere.

Unable to start and no water out the telltale

Starting fluid is not a good idea. The only oil you get is from the oil in the gas. At this point you really need to check compression.

    1985 25 hp Johnson won’t start

Make sure you are getting fuel to the carb before going any further. don’t run it with the spray can as it has no oil in it which means your running with no oil.

'84 Johnson 90HP died in water, won't restart

If you were pumping the ball hard and still using the primer after switching tanks you likely did flood it. Just swapping tanks is all you really need to do.

Unable to start and no water out the telltale

Be sure the vent is open in the tank pump the ball until hard after you move the throttle all way to the right go back left about 1/8 turn. Goal is to move it just a bit higher than the slowest idle position. If it doesn’t fire after say 3 pulls then move the choke half way in. Goal is not to...

84 Johnson 40 HP Weak Top End/No Slow Idle

If the plug was dry then most likely it’s not getting fuel. I really think you would benefit from a complete carb job. The kit are cheap and readily available. Finding parts is not going to be a problem.

84 Johnson 40 HP Weak Top End/No Slow Idle

That bottom cylinder is clearly not firing. Before you check your spark with an adjustable spark tester get some oil into that cyclinder even if it’s just WD 40. If it’s not getting fuel it’s not getting oil. Damage to that cylinder is not far behind if it’s not already been done.

84 Johnson 40 HP Weak Top End/No Slow Idle

In my eyes being that this is new to you and have no history on it and it’s not running right first order of business would be to rebuild the carbs and fuel pump replace and fuel lines that seam dry and or cracked replace plugs and inspect plug plug wires and get a new water pump installed. Make...

Epoxy type to use in water jacket

You shouldn’t have temps much higher than you thermostats. Probably around 140. If you get over 200 then your going to have bigger problems than this.

Milky Gear Oil - Now What?

Do you replace the washers on the plugs when you check or change the oil? If not it could be as simple as that. I would at least pressure test it before doing anything else. Best of luck

    25 HP evinrude Etech issue

I don’t know much about the Etec motors but I would guess old fuel could be your problem. May need to clean the injectors and get some fresh fuel running though it.
