    That's a tough one. Doesn't the screw have two options. Standard bit and a hex head (socket) ? Sounds like something let go when you heard the noise.

    Take it to a truck scale somewhere. A saturated boat weighs a ton. Also, pull carb cover with engine off and push throttle to full. Make sure carbs go to full open.
