Looking at getting a 2013 Mercury ProXS and I have a question

What happened that both the power head and lower unit had to be replaced under warranty?

2001 mercury optimax 135 running hot

Quick Google search shows this to be a common problem. What is your water pressure at idle? Did you change the spring on the poppet valve as well? Did you replace the entire water pump or just the impeller? Did you replace the grommet(s) on the bottom of the water tube when you did the work...

Questions for shallow water outboard jet operators

Grew up on the Potomac River upstream of the fall line. Fish the Susquehanna above the fall line as well a couple of times a year. Both are very shallow and littered with rock and debris. It’s not if, it’s when you hit something or run aground. Jon boats are king and it doesn’t matter if your...

    Aggravating gasket

The “not fitting” part is swelling. Going to happen over time. If it’s an older motor could still be using Buna N instead of Viton (fluorocarbon) rubber which is a much better performer with E fuels.

    Aggravating gasket

Hard to tell from the picture of its a rubber or fiber gasket.. either way, you do not reuse compression fit gaskets, period. In either scenario, the gasket is “crushed” between the mating surfaces to make a seal. The cross section of the gasket and the amount of crush (percentage of...

Dual Switch- One Battery Drains the Other

As I would expect when you remove the charge source from a battery As I would expect when you both batteries tied together and remove the common charge source. Supposedly "dead" batteries don't self rejuvenate in 10 minutes or so? Pretty typical failure mode for a starter on the way out. Had...

    Skeg Welding

Unit could be left on the boat and welded under water if you wanted to. All depends on the skills of the welder. Lots of “unskilled” practitioners (lack formal welding training and or certifications) out there. Personally, I prefer the customer remove the unit so the work can be done on the...

    Your Worst Nightmare.-

Both are easy fixes for someone with experience Worst nightmare is "shade tree" breaking off a tap or drill off while trying to remove them.

Kind of a weird question on a/c for boat

I guess its all what you are used to. We keep the AC set at 75 degrees during the day.....73 degrees at night. Anything less causes the windows and doors to condensate and the wife to complain that she's cold. Suxs living in the shadow of the Bermuda "Heat Pump" High.

No ice required...... simply use lake water. Use 4" PVC duct to route

Kind of a weird question on a/c for boat

Is that 90’s as in Death Valley or 90’s as in Miami? Big difference in the amount of cooling capacity required. Water to air heat exchanger. Got away from refrigerated units long ago if we have an available source of water. Cuts power consumption by roughly 50% if not more

What is “hot”? What temp is the lake water?

Lowrance HDS9 Gen 2 Touch issue

Your comment about spending $200 for a new transducer caught my attention. Got me digging into the specifics of the unit in question. Your unit is a bit under powered (500W, conventional) for the conditions you describe. How deep is the water your fishing? What transducer are you running...

Lowrance HDS9 Gen 2 Touch issue

Looking in to it a bit more, it looks like your units is only 500W What water depths and transducer are you running? Mfg. depth claims are widely exaggerated and typically punctuated with lots of small print. Not getting anywhere close to 1,000 feet with a 500W unit

Lowrance HDS9 Gen 2 Touch issue

Locally we call that a “false” bottom. Good things come when your depth alarm goes off in 50’ of water ;) A bench test means little. How did they simulate a fish passing under your transducer? An 8 hour “bench test” will catch overheating components. The chances of catching an “induced”...

Lowrance HDS9 Gen 2 Touch issue

Nothing to do with depth….how deep where you when you took the picture? In manual or auto? New installation? Do it with motor and or ignition off?

Lowrance HDS9 Gen 2 Touch issue

Looks like your loosing or have lost your sonar signal or return. Could be a problem in the pulse generator circuit. Could be signal saturationp. How much water are you in? New or existing installation?
