    The 3rd wire goes anywhere it can be grounded. Can even use 1 of the 3 screws that hold the body of the electric choke, or anything else that is grounded

    Agree, if its open or has a bad connection. The NS switch connects the yellow/red wire from the start side of the key switch thru the NNS to the start relay. The switch closes when in neutral so its safe to start

    Ok, then with key turned to start wiggle the shifter back and forth slightly. If it cranks then its the neutral safety or its adjustment

    You said by the carb, which it should look like this And there should just be one. Down by the trim pump there are also 2 of the above ones which are the same and are trim relays. The trim relays have nothing to do with a motor starting

    ok, thanks The TB ignition is pretty solid. If it does have trouble it either works or it doesn't. It won't stop working and work again later. The Dizzy module can get intermittent from a bad ground, and is the reason Merc came out with a new module with 3 wires instead of 2

    It's hardly ever the coil, and if the rotor breaks then it wasn't installed correctly Looking at the spliced wiring on the motor, that is what's causing the problems. The module wiring appears to be spliced, and have no idea what the red wire is doing on that side of the carb.

    Agree If this is a new to you boat then the most probable cause is the drive was changed with the wrong ratio. If this just started happening, then its a motor problem

    Ok, have a compression test done with a accurate gauge. A new motor will be 150 psi and worn out one is 100. If your tach is accurate being 1100 rpm low you would need to reduce pitch close to 10 degrees If you know what pitch your prop is that would help, along with with the drive ratio is

    Yes the diode paper clip will work. Can also use a multimeter that has a tone setting on ohms. Instead of seeing the flash the meter will beep
