    Seeing your cooling system is a 7 point drain. Was the thermostat and all the pieces installed as shown? Note the thermostat goes against housing, then the gasket, then sleeve Also was the housing clean of any left over gasket material?

    Suggest; Pull both heads and look close at cylinder bores. If they look good and there isn't anything that stands out like excessive wear, get a valve job done on both heads

    Metal or plastic should be able to do it. You will know if it doesn't go all the way in, because the Dizzy won't go all the way down. The plastic one will require it to be pushed down until there is something like a snap in

    While it might be metal, I'm currently rebuilding a Gen VI 454 and the one removed is a white thermo plastic. It rides against a place so its like a bearing/bushing

    BTW it maybe able to done away with. Code 44 was only used on MEFI 2 and 3 models. Since then they found it does more harm then good. It can be turned off but need tuning software to do it. The caveat is that the ECM program cannot be locked and most are not. Need something like MEFI Burn...
