    Motor is making way too clattering noises.-----Stop running it and start inspection.----Compression test.----Check gear oil.-----Check for bad bearings.-----Sounds like scrap to me.----Sorry to be blunt here.

    Ask them.----I do my own boring and honing.----Just finished a rebuild job ( 4 new pistons ) for a busy shop.-----Was given a " thank you " and a bonus !-----I can not comment on other shop's procedures !!

    I would take a guess that it is a 1986 model.----Why did you pick the rebuilding of carburetors as step #1 in this fixing process ?----And I would replace the water pump impeller before launching the boat !

    Does spark jump a gap of at least a 1/4" ( 6 mm ) or more on a test device ?-----Spark plugs are not a good way to test for good / strong spark

    The main water intake is behind the propeller.------So put the boat in the water for testing.----Or in a deep bucket with water 6" above the water pump !----And check the thermostat as they are often stuck open.------Simple as that.

    Debris / junk in the shift piston bore would jam the piston.----The spring is only so strong to move the piston to get forward gear !

    Cylinder head will be warped.----Must be trued up before new gasket is installed.
