I understand that popularity of formula 1 went down when engines stopped screaming making lots of noise at 18,000 RPM.----Same with unlimited hydroplanes when they moved away from V-12 Merlin / Packard engines.----Turbines just are not the same.
Some will argue.-----It sounds normal to me.----Have a look on the parts books for Suzuki and Johnson to see what the clutch dog looks like.-----The pinion gear / forward / reverse are always meshed.----It is the clutch dog that moves between forward and reverse that has that 10 / 15 degree...
What motor ?------Not sure why it would matter !----What is your motor doing / not doing ?----Also indicates that many folks have issues understanding 12 volts / wires.
You might have a bad pump.----Or crankcase compression ( PRESSURE ) is not driving the pump.----Or issues with your hose , bulb or tank.---Should be easy to figure out.
There is a chance that the impeller ran dry.----A wise man would have a look at it again.------Remember there is nothing on that motor that shuts it down on overheat.----And I doubt it has a warning horn for overheat.
Water MUST be 8" above the pump when running in a test bucket.----So get a bigger bucket is take boat to the launch ramp to test.----Hard to assemble those pumps so they don't work.
If motor sat for years with fuel in the carburetor it will need cleaning.-----Test for spark on both leads too.-----Do a compression test.----If good then clean the carburetor.
