1993 Volvo Penta DP-D1 Stern Drive

If you PM me your email, I can send you a 1988 290/DPA shop manual. However the VP site just needs your drive serial number to get the manual (1991 and later) There is little change in the drive from the 290DP up to the DP-H1 If you need parts...

    FREEZE PLUG REPLACEMENT

I would look closely. Looks like the core plug was pushed out (fresh metal scrapes) Agree with Jim, marine engines use brass and stainless core plugs.

    Prop change rpm gain?

not sure you can fit a 16" prop on an A1G2 as it was tight with a 15". however rule of thumb is 200 RPM for every inch of pitch. still think you have a fuel issue.

    Regal valanti 170. Omc 4.3 v6

get rid of the batwings before they kill your motor. simply google batwing manifolds no idea what went into the motor in 2018, however wont change hp much between cheap cast pistons or forged unless there was a blower on the motor. being in a boat, you are limited on cam choices

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

yes, it should be steady if you are taking readings from the plenum. however you are most likely taking readings upstream closer to a cylinder so you will get pulses.

    Regal valanti 170. Omc 4.3 v6

Going from 2 barrel to 4 barrel will gain you maybe 10-15 HP. Going to vortec heads will get you another 20hp or so So from your 37knots to maybe 40knots Did you replace the batwing manifolds yet

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

Depends where you have the cam set and where the timing is. 15 to 18 inches of mercury is where I would expect at 0 up at idle with 8 BTDC base timing Bring the base timing up to 10-12 BTDC and you will bring the idle vacuum up. Did you get a fuel pressure reading while under load?

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

I ran the same cam in the SBC on the Rogue. spinning VP DuoProp B6 props (about 23p) and pushing 4200# out of the hole almost instantaneously. I dont think its a prop issue. however toons are a different animal. the lower the drive in the water is does load the prop up a lot more, however...
