    ??---Where the DRIVESHAFT goes into the lower unit there are 2 seals.-----And on a 1984 model 90 HP if the seals are original you need a complete seal kit.---Much more cheaper than gears , bearings and shafts !!

    Yes ---every town used to have a small outboard repair shop.-----The factory does not want those places anymore.----They want big " selling " dealers that have $100/ HR+ service department.

    The overheat warning horn was in the control box for may 1984 models.-----But these days there are very creative modifications made.-----Without pictures we do not know what you have !

    I guess I forgot to mention that you won't find that o-ring at the hardware store or in a " these will fit everywhere " kit.

    Another easy way is to run a 5/16-NC tap ( 3 or 4 threads ) into the bushing.----Pull it out with threaded rod.

    The video in post #4 does not have enough water in the test bucket.----Water must be 6" ( 15 cm ) above the pump.

    What year outboard is this Super Seahorse 40hp?

    In my opinion there are no " special " tools needed to do a gearcase reseal on that lower unit.---Shift rod o-ring can in fact be replaced without removing the bushing.----Just take it apart and see how simple it is.

    The tell tale comes off the side off the exhaust housing !----Starboard side,-----It will be plugged now with dirt corrosion.-----That is why they abandoned that under the block tell tale !!

    I do not believe you can find / detect a sheared key with a timing light.----Back firing when cranking are the symptoms of timing issues.----Wires mixed up , plug leads on wrong and sheared key.

    Revisit your carburetor work.----The float / float valve are not working properly !----And who used a gear puller on that flywheel instead of the proper puller with 3 bolts 1/4-NC thread ?

    Simple.----Look carefully where the block bolts to the exhaust housing.-----I believe you should be able to see where that passage way goes.----And it will be plugged.----Best to install a new fitting , possibly using that plug on top of the block.---Some hose .----Drill a hole in the cowling...

    A 5/16-NC tap will do it.----But actually the o-ring can be replaced without pulling the bushing.----Or yes the special factory tool ( have 4 brand new ones here ) can be used.-----Using a dremel cutting tool will weaken the shaft seals so they nearly fall out.
