    The 1986 had timing at 6 BTDC and a dwell of 28 - 34 degrees Now you mentioned a notch, if you have a notch then your motor is either newer or the timing cover may have been changed

    No The issue is heat soak develops in the fuel rail and most often happens mainly with MPI models. The fix is to change the return fuel back to the tank instead of to the fuel filter. By returning to the tank, there is cooler fuel always available and heat soak is not such a problem'

    While your real close your not there, it just takes to much to pull out The two pics show top and bottom of shaft as it was rotated. The marks are clean but not even. Your probably a tad high, and on one side more then the other

    You want 10W30 motor oil, not 30W non-detergent To change seal, need to remove motor and drive. Then unbolt transom plate and remove transom assembly from the transom.
