    Once again some folks here will tell you that this ---" foamy looking " ---goop is normal for this motor.------What you are looking at is technology from 70 years ago.----I see a nice " expensive to own " 4 stroke outboard in your future.

    It starts fine and idles fine you say.-----It revs up fine in neutral you say.----They all rev up fine in neutral !!----What size / year is this motor ??----And it is up to you do do some trouble shooting / per post #2----Post compression numbers and check spark on all leads !!

    Sounds like rubbing compound is what is used.------But if scratches are deep you could make it worse as far as cosmetic appearance.-----On a " new to you boat " likely there are other thing to worry about.------Inspect transom / stringers / motor.------Leave the cosmetics till last.

    Those pumps are quite simple.------A new impeller and 99 out of 100 will pump just fine.

    Agreed---Switchbox is similar to a light bulb.------They work , work , work until one day they go----PHOOOFF ----and don't work anymore.----If your mechanic can tell it is failing he has options for a better paying career.

    It was overheating and you kept running it ??-----For how many seconds after the alarm and was it at full throttle ?

    Water must be 8" above the pump in your bucket.

    Do a compression test for future reference , before you spend money on it.-----Post the numbers here.-----A new impeller for water pump.----Running with automatic oiler or 50:1 mix ?

    CO makes it a 1985 model-------A SEADRIVE .------An outboard with a special hydraulic bracket system.--Easy to find the part # if the powerhead is original with the 35 AMP stator.------Where are you looking ?-----Who said it is a 200 HP.--------Look for and ask your friendly dealer for some help !

    Your motor is overheating.-----Stop running it and find out why.-----Thermostat checked ?------How did this motor run for you last year ?---Last month ?-----Any other history?----Checked grommet at the top of the water tube ?

    Possible that the buzzer itself is defective.-----And does the tell tale hose come off the side of the block or the top ?------The latest water pump kit comes with parts / instructions for cooling system changes.-----Look into it.

    The water that comes out the tell tale does NOT go through the engine block.------Could be a blockage in the engine.-----Possible blown head gasket.----Start with a compression test.

    Well-----12 volts from the battery is NOT USED to make spark for the plugs.----You will damage ignition parts by applying 12 volts in various places.----Do some trouble shooting .----A factory manual is cheaper than parts !
