Possible blown head gasket? Need Help!

Pull the manifolds, most likely leaking water down the cylinders and rusted the valves

    Anybody have this happen?

Lack of maintenance You will most likely neet a complete transmission, maybe a whole outdrive. You will have to pull the drive apart to see the extent of the damage

    Engine Identification?

Asside from the obviousness that the motor was left neglected outside to the elements for years, making it no longer useful as a parts motor There is a big corrosion hole in the leg, a decade of moss and mildew, the coils are cracked. Not sure what you see as value. None of us have a dog in...

    Engine Identification?

my guess is your "friend" currently is upset with you its worth $0.10 per pound as mixed metals scrap after you remove the lubricants, hoses, etc. (and have more than a ton) if you break the motor down to cast iron, steel and aluminum bits, the aluminum is worth $0.53 per pound, steel is $178...

    Starting issue

its almost never the coil only about 3 out a a million changed coils are actually bad. people replace the coils because they think its the problem without doing actual troubleshooting. the issue is one of the following things: a corroded wire. Solution here is to clean all corrosion. or...

    Rebuilding pontoon into a tri-toon

remember, you have a displacement hull. plenty of pontoon threads on here where someone pulls a 50hp off to install a 90hp and the speed is the same, however the fuel consumption and noise are increased. if you are planning on getting the pontoon to go up to 40mph, it probably wont.

    Acceleration problem

most likely the carb is dirty and needs to be pulled apart its not the neutral safety switch, that only disables the starter. the shift interrupt switch only comes into play when coming back to neutral your issue is fuel system related.

    Rebuilding pontoon into a tri-toon

here is some light reading. https://www.pontooners.com/maximum-horsepower-pontoon-boat/ keep in mind, unless properly designed, you may not be any faster with 200hp than you would be with 50hp on a pontoon. you need to get a displacement hull up on plane. that means lifting strakes, etc.

    Play in my Telflex Steering

Now that you know what is under the helm. go to the back of the boat with a helper and look to see if you have actual slop, or if its just low-speed bow wander

    Other causes for prop slip?

Dash tachs are notoriously off and their inacuracies are usually not linear. they are nothing more than a digital to analog converter and a volt meter unless its a CAN BUSS gauge reading directly from the engine ECU (which your 2000 3.0 would not have) just a bit of corrosion on the...

    steering cable?

no way to lube a steering cable. usually the inner sheath wears thru and the cable starts to rust in place. just buy a new cable. $150 well spent

Tower of power polished cowl wrap.

Looks good, however you know that their phantom black is just Ditzler PPG black in a more expensive label. rattle can solvent-dry paint will not stay on a motor. best is always a catalyzed paint. Mercruiser/Mercury marine paint process and paint materials (pulled from the manuals) are in the...

Thoughts on a 2005 Doral Thundercraft 240 Magnum?

any boat that sits for 5 years should be a red flag. why? normally the reason a boat sits is something went wrong with it, and it was put away waiting for the owner to get a round to it. sometimes the owner dies and the boat sits in storage the low hours is also concerning. not using a boat...

    Play in my Telflex Steering

that is a rotary helm then (round-ish with the cable sleeve out the other side of the helm). a rack helm is a square metal tube about 18" long with the cable coming out one end and the helm in the middle

    Play in my Telflex Steering

lets confirm. standard steering cable back to a hydraulic actuator, correct? not hydraulic helm like dingbat is assuming. correct? rack or rotary helm? is the slop actually there, or is the issue low-speed bow wander (all single engine v-hull boats wander at low speeds) if its low-speed bow...
