    safety or not safety wise?

Any horn is a good horn. Power boats are required to have them, I don't know why a lot of sailboats don't. If it turns foggy it would be a hazard to other boaters to not have one.

    Bilge sump question

Put food coloring in the next compartment and then wait/watch for awhile.

    Bilge sump question

Well then it's not a funky repair. You will have to find where it's coming in. Once I worked on one that I couldn't find the leak, But a different setup than that. The forward area was sealed to the cuddy cabin, but the cuddy would get water in it. Food coloring in the area behind the cuddy, and...

    Bilge sump question

Yeah, if it leaks on the trailer there is something amiss....

    Bilge sump question

That looks like a bad repair. You would have to pull the boat out and inspect the outside of the hull. Then fix it properly.

Engine shutdown procedure VP 8.1 Gi-J

Idle it for a few minutes and shut down. My procedure for years, no issues. It gives the motor time to cool down. I always laugh when I see others shut down when drifting into the dock and then the wind gets ahold of them, and they have to re-start. Never shut down at higher than idle and till...

Stupid question…… garboard drain plug size

No need for the teflon tape. It's a tapered pipe thread. Snug it up and go boating. I see so many with teflon, sure they don't leak. I've seen many wit no tape, they don't leak either. If it does, it may have been overtightend over the years and wore out. Seen a few where the head of the plug is...

1992 bass tracker alarm keeps going off

Had one at the shop several years ago, drove me nuts trying to figure it out. After testing and replacing mentioned parts, it was the alarm itself that was shorted. Weird causes sometimes.

Stupid question…… garboard drain plug size

Bronze from hardware store. No need to put any sealer on it or crank it so tight you need a muscle man to get it out! Snug is good.

    Thermostat gaskets 3.0 merc

Ah, ok, so it had the cork to begin with. Good. The gasket with the metal grommets is for the ones with a temperature sensor or overheat sensor in the cap. You can use the regular one for your application.

    Thermostat gaskets 3.0 merc

Ok. Clean the surfaces, use the gasket wit the big hole on the top plate. Use the o-ring under the thermostat.

    Livewell operation

The stand pipe is usually the overflow, so you can keep the pump running for aerating the livewell. I worked on one that was not working correctly a few years back. Turned out the swithching valve was bad bypassing the the switch. Post a pic of your setup.

    Livewell operation

Shut off the standpipe. It should switch it to the fill location.

So I became a proud boat owner today.

Never flood/fill the boat with water. It not only stresses the trailer beyond what it is designed for, it also stresses the hull the wrong way. Floating it is the only way to check them for leaks.

So I became a proud boat owner today.

Picked up an old rotted larson bowrider, 3.0 mercruiser for free myself. Great spare moter for my 85 larson that I/m restoring. They are out there for cheap.

I just got this rope and it has some frays.. Think it's OK to use??

I've skiid with some pretty beat up ropes. They would either break or get knots in them from misuse when I wasn't looking. Tie it together for the day and keep on going. You just reminded me to get a new one for the upcoming summer......

    Dumb Stuff You Find

My brothers car, 62 chevey impala, the transmission went out. So we removed it and installed a three speed transmission, clutch, and all the linkages for a floor shift. Left the column in from the automatic. Well around a week later my brother calls and said it wouldn't start. I went there and...

    Dumb Stuff You Find

had that happen to the brother in law. He came over with another motor for his Toyota. He said change the motor, this one is shot. I said let me diagnose the old one, nope, just change it, we already know it’s bad. So I did. The new used motor ran exactly the same. I diag the the thing, had two...
