    Gear Oil In My Bilge

If you have a lube reservoir, is it possibly leaking? Is boat fresh or salt water used. Do you have good compression?

Another gear oil thread... 80w-90 vs. 90

My Bravos have lube reservoirs that gravity feed gear oil to OD. I don't think reservoir is sealed other than a cap, which has a hole in it so it can breath.

Another gear oil thread... 80w-90 vs. 90

I believe marine gear lube has some additives not found in std automotive gear lube. Maybe not... I'd stay with marine and what manual recommends.

What reason causes the water leaking into gimbal bearing house?

There was, but the sea spray overwhelmed it, including coil/TB4. Too small... Flame arrestor was protected by a larger aluminum U channel and was not overwhelmed. After I shielded coil/TB4 with small plastic tarp, I never had ignition/water related problem. After I pulled OD for yearly...

What reason causes the water leaking into gimbal bearing house?

My old Sea Ray was a wet deck boat and I'd get lots of spray. Spray would leak down between motor hatches and transom. I even had it short out a coil. I added a shield to eliminate the short and then noticed how gravity made the spray drip on coupler shaft. I pulled OD and could see daylight...

My old Alpha1 leaked there. Seal was crap. I replaced and never had an issue. Just saying...

What reason causes the water leaking into gimbal bearing house?

There is a housing seal that prohibits water from entering through coupler spline. Few replace them but you have an older boat that may need a new one. Water spray may be dripping down into cavity. You can buy a pressure testing tool. I suggest investing instead of throwing parts after parts...

Run Merc 3.0LX on external fuel tank

UR tank may have been compromised or your hose vent is toast. UR water fuel separator should have an additional input and output hose barb connection (may have to install). I have fuel tank selector switches in mine in addition to the fuel separators.

Trim won't go all the way up

You should have OD up/down trim switches and trailer up/down switches. Charge battery!!!!! Jump it at trim's solenoid to point you towards the next place to check. If it will not go up and down completely by jumping solenoid, start looking there. It may be bad pump or bad solenoid. It takes more...

    Tips On Replacing Starter

My experience is that you will have to remove STB exhaust manifold and risers (if you have them), to provide more room. That is how I replaced my starter. You can cut off bold heads of 5" long bolts and cut in flat screwdriver slots into the bolts. You can then replace the manifold center bolts...

    Thunderbolt 5 Base Timing Issues

They both have knock sensors and modules. I will check to see if they have some other writing on them indicating they are not TB5-THX

    Thunderbolt 5 Base Timing Issues

Motors are 350 non vortex and non-roller cams. As for years, I don't have a clue. Former owner (since deceased I believe) machined these into Strokers. Before I put up boat 4 years ago, both motors ran great. I used distributor tool to pump/circulate oil before starting. Lube bottle wires are...

    Thunderbolt 5 Base Timing Issues

After some health issues, I am back into rebuilding my Old Sea Ray. I have port running great. Starboard is having issues. 1: I cannot get performance. It feels like it is in timing and will not advance (correctly). I disconnected lead and grounding it, but distributor still advances on...
