How do I get that last inch?

I had a dealer rig a Trailer up like that, where the Strap was aimed down and under the Bow Stop. The Trailer I had, did have a lot of Adjustability, I was able to change the Angle of the Stand so the Winch Cable came off the Drum and was lined up with the Bow Eye, and was Parallel to the...

Engine, Carb or Prop? need suggestions or ideas please.

I have a 5.7 in my 18 1/2 footer(in my Avatar). It is adequate, but for any boat bigger, I would be getting more displacement. You can get more hp out of a Small Block, Cam changes, but that mores the Torque Curve into Higher Rpm ranges, and kills the Low End Torque where you need it, especially...

Engine, Carb or Prop? need suggestions or ideas please.

I would consider a Big Block, more Torque, attaining Horsepower at lower Rpms.

    85hp Merc?

Rule of Thumb for years has been 1 mph for every 5hp Increase. I also factored that your 50hp was Crank Rated, and the 70hp was likely Prop Rated. so I added a bit to the estimate. If both engines were rated the same way, the increase would be about 4 mph. The 70 is a Larger Displacement, so it...

The 1957 thru 1963 35hp and 40hp, as well as all the V4s 58-63, were fully Antifriction Bearing, and could tolerate a 50:1 provided a TCW Oil was used.

Silliest Question on Fuel Mix - Thank you for your patience

That engine has Anti-Friction Bearings throughout, the OP's Engine has Friction Bearing aka; Bushings. These need significantly More Oil, mainly to prevent Metal to Metal Contact, especially in the Connecting Rod Bearings. Leaner Mixtures, even when superior Oils are used, don't provide enough...

That is what I considered a Jumpstart, done standing on a Dock, or a Raft. I did a lot of Knee Deep Starts, even succeeded on my 1st Attempt back in 1975.

    2 Stroke Oil Thread

Put it this way, Amsoil is not a TCW-3 Certified Oil, so using it might be a Risk. I don't know about the Stihl Oil, what I remember about their Oils, was that they were for Air Cooled 2 Strokes, which run considerably Hotter than Outboards and thereby place different Demands on the Oils.

    Transom saver or no?

If the Motor flopps around, then yes a Saver may be a good Idea. If the Motor is Locked Rigidly by Hydraulics, then Avoid them, because if the Boat shifts ever so slightly forward or backward, a lot of Stress is placed on the very Transom you think you are protecting

Silliest Question on Fuel Mix - Thank you for your patience

If it says 16:1. use 16:1 even with the TCW-3 Oils. That motor uses Friction Bearings, and needs Lots of Oil to Survive. it will also help keep the Mosquitoes at bay
