Mercruiser 7.4 Dipstick Tube Broke, Can't Remove Oil Pan

Thanks! I used the ball peen hammer to knock back the raised edges and they just keep falling off, I'm assuming that's correct and should be fine? The surface is smooth now though

Mercruiser 7.4 Dipstick Tube Broke, Can't Remove Oil Pan

Are you referring to the bit of metal that's sticking up around most of the bolt holes? What's the best way to get rid of them? My first thought would be grinder but I don't want to mess up the black coating either.

Mercruiser 7.4 Dipstick Tube Broke, Can't Remove Oil Pan

Sounds good, I'll use a block of wood to bang it back, what is the pan rail you're referring to? Are you talking about making sure the oil pan surface is flat?

Mercruiser 7.4 Dipstick Tube Broke, Can't Remove Oil Pan

I ended up using a sawzall to cut the tube and finally got the oil pan off and dipstick tube out after some heavy hammering. Do you guys think it would be ok to re-use the oil pan? I sprayed the dipstick hole with penetrating fluid and I'm going to use a wire brush to clean it out, seems to be...

Mercruiser 7.4 Dipstick Tube Broke, Can't Remove Oil Pan

and I can't push it in because this particular tube has a lip that rests against the oil pan, I tried like hell to push it out but it won't budge. Btw, where can I get a new oil pan for $80 at? I looked on ebay but the cheapest new one was $170

Mercruiser 7.4 Dipstick Tube Broke, Can't Remove Oil Pan

I tried prying but no luck, bent the hell out of the pickup tube tray but it's not budging, I even tried to get a Dremel in there to cut the tube but it's barely cutting.

Mercruiser 7.4 Dipstick Tube Broke, Can't Remove Oil Pan

I have the engine pulled and the oil pan dropped already, it's about an inch or so off the block and I can move it around but I stuck a camera in the crack and the dipstick tube is getting stuck on some metal part, I'll try to get a pic and post it.

Mercruiser 7.4 Dipstick Tube Broke, Can't Remove Oil Pan

I'm working on a Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V and needed to replace the oil pan gasket, well when I went to pull the dipstick tube out of the pan, it was pretty rusted and it just broke on me. Now the other end is stuck inside the oil pan and I can't remove the oil pan because the tube gets stuck. I've...

Evinrude 115 VRO RPM gauge / Warning lights not working?

None of the system check lights work, nothing comes on at all, I even took the gauge out and used a power probe to send power to the red wire to see if it would do anything. Guess I'm looking at $250 for a new gauge -.-

Evinrude 115 VRO RPM gauge / Warning lights not working?

I just finished fixing my boat after some fuel delivery problems and now I noticed my RPM gauge/system check doesn't work. When I turn the key to the on position, there's no beep and none of the warning lights come on. I didn't touch anything electrical while doing the fuel system repairs. The...

    Evinrude 115 Won't Idle?

Just an update, finally solved the problem, I ripped my fuel system apart from engine to the fuel tank, pickup tube was good, anti siphon barb was good, finally figured out the problem was a crappy aftermarket fuel filter not allowing fuel to flow properly. Switched to a sierra fuel filter and...

    Evinrude 115 Won't Idle?

This is probably a stupid question...but is there supposed to be any air bubbles in the fuel line when manually pumping? I was looking at the fuel input and saw a few air bubbles when pumping, no air bubbles when running though. I had connected the the fuel line to a separate tank so ruled out...

    Evinrude 115 Won't Idle?

Any idea why fuel would be coming out all 4 carbs with the switch open? With the switch closed it pressurizes fine but with it open fuel will start coming out of all 4 carbs and it will never pressurize.

    Evinrude 115 Won't Idle?

I replaced the gasket on the vapor separation tank and it stopped leaking but i'm still getting the same problem or rather the problem seems to have gotten worse, now it won't stay running even with the red primer switch on. I pulled the plugs right after it died and they are all wet, but why...

    Evinrude 115 Won't Idle?

I hooked the fuel supply to a standalone tank and still the same issue but I think I may have found the problem, I took the intake cover off and was pumping the fuel and noticed fuel seeping out of the black box circled, I'll be taking it apart today and ill let you know what I find, hopefully...

    Evinrude 115 Won't Idle?

Just put everything back together and I'm positive the carbs are squeaky clean, ran every part in a heated ultrasonic cleaner for 2 cycles of 8 min then blew out everything with air. Unfortunately the same issue is still there, it'll stay running as long as I'm manually pumping the primer bulb...

    Evinrude 115 Won't Idle?

I got my gaskets and currently cleaning the carbs and had a couple of questions if anyone's able to help. In the first pic, what is that jet for? Because it sits on the outside of the carb body, is it to let air pressure out or something? In the 2nd pic, is that the metering system you were...

    Evinrude 115 Won't Idle?

I visually looked over everything and it all seems very clean to me, no corrosion or dirt at all, are those little circles with 2 holes the metering circuit?

    Evinrude 115 Won't Idle?

Gotcha, thanks for all the info Is the metering circuit part of the plastic carb part or the metal throttle body part? When I rebuilt the carbs I only cleaned the plastic part out.

    Evinrude 115 Won't Idle?

Ok, I'm gonna completely take the carbs apart tomorrow and throw them in the ultrasonic cleaner, hopefully that'll solve the issue, even though it's odd because I just rebuilt the carbs maybe 3 months ago, I didn't put them in the ultrasonic cleaner though, I just used carb cleaner and...
