Is the Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V an interference motor?

Long story short, I did a compression test when I got the boat and it all tested out fine, did some work to the boat over a couple of months and now the exhaust valve on cylinder #1 is stuck open. I took the valve cover off and the rocker was loose and when I pulled the push rod out I noticed it...

Does anyone have pic of distributor on Merc 7.4 Gen V?

Found the issue, exhaust valve on cylinder #1 is stuck open, not sure what happened, I did a compression test when I first got the boat and compression was good, changed the oil pan gasket and rear main seal and now the exhaust valve is stuck open. Also there's no outdrive or water connected to...

Is the Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V an interference motor?

Does anyone know if a Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V is an interference motor? I tried researching it but i'm getting a lot of differing answers, I'm guessing it depends on the generation of the motor but I couldn't find a definite answer to if the Gen V was interference or not.

Does anyone have pic of distributor on Merc 7.4 Gen V?

I'm working on a 1993 Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V, it acts like it tries to start but will run for a second or too and then stop and backfire through the carb, I didn't touch the distributor, so I would think timing should be right, but the engine is new to me so no idea. I'm thinking the backfiring is...

Thanks! That's what I was thinking too, also started removing the carbs for disassembly to see what's wrong.

2001 Mercury 50 hp 2 stroke leaking fuel

Serial # is 0T458817, also uploaded a pic of the specs as well as a pic of the 3 carb setup, none of them have a screw in that hole and only the middle one leaks fuel when I pump the primer bulb.

2001 Mercury 50 hp 2 stroke leaking fuel

I'm working on a 2001 Mercury 50 hp 2 stroke I recently got, it had a bad starter and starter solenoid so replaced those and she started right up. My issue now is there appears to be fuel leaking from a hole on one of the carbs, was wondering if anyone knew what that hole is for and why it would...

Mercruiser 3.0 Water Pump Pulley Not Lined Up

It seems the water pump pulley on my Mercruiser 3.0 doesn't line up with the crank, power steering or alternator pulley for some reason. I did some research but it seems most people who had the problem it was the water pump pulley was too far in, my issue is the pulley is too far out so I can't...

Mercruiser 3.0 RPM Drop Every Few Seconds?

I was actually just thinking the vent line too, I filled up fully today and afterwards it took me awhile to get it started, normally it starts on the first crank.

Mercruiser 3.0 RPM Drop Every Few Seconds?

I forgot to mention new spark plugs, new wires, new distributor cap and rotor. The dash RPM gauge does drop and I feel the boat pull back just slightly, it's not a very abrupt drop, more like a smooth rpm pullback then it just goes right back up to where it was and cruises just fine.

Mercruiser 3.0 RPM Drop Every Few Seconds?

I have a 2007 Sea Ray 175 with the Merc 3.0 w/ Alpha one, just rebuilt the carb and fresh gas, it idles fine and runs great more or less, it'll get up and go and plane easily, but while I'm cruising every maybe 15 sec or so the RPM's will just suddenly drop briefly and then go right back up to...

Bravo vs Bravo Diesel Transom Assembly?

Does anyone know the differences between a Bravo vs Bravo Diesel transom assembly? I know the diesel version has an extra hole for something that's currently plugged and the exhaust bellows looks different. I bought a bellows kit for a regular Bravo transom assembly, will it work for the Bravo...

Is it safe to use oxyacetylene torch on transom bolts?

I tried an air chisel and lots of penetrating spray but didn't have any luck, the whole area around the bolts were too corroded, I ended up putting 2 nuts on back to back on the bolt to lock them up and then just un-screwed the entire bolt from the transom assembly.

Is it safe to use oxyacetylene torch on transom bolts?

I'm trying to remove the transom assembly on a 93 Sea Ray Sundancer that's very badly corroded, I have all 8 nuts removed and it'll barely budge, I may have knocked the top bolts back a mm if even that and the rest of the bolts are super corroded, can't even get the inner plate off. I was...

What kind of control box is this?

Does anyone know what kind of control box this is? It's from a 2007 Sea Ray 175 and the neutral button popped out, I'm trying to get a replacement but can't for the life of me figure out what kind of box this is.

    Mercruiser 7.4 Starter Grinding/Partial Engagement?

Yea I'm gonna pull it again and replace with a timesert, but for the time being I was trying to see if the starter would turn the engine over correctly, how do the clearances look to you? Does the flywheel seem off or is it normal to have a gap that size between the flywheel and the block?

    Mercruiser 7.4 Starter Grinding/Partial Engagement?

Well the helicoil kinda worked, put a new one in and it was tightening...until it wasn't, I felt it break loose slightly but it's tight enough where there's no play on the starter. I tried turning the starter over with a power probe but it just thunks from the Bendix trying to engage but the...

    Mercruiser 7.4 Starter Grinding/Partial Engagement?

Update...finally got time to pull the motor and found the problem, starter was not fully seated because apparently someone before me had stripped out one of the starter bolt holes and put in a helicoil repair that had failed causing the starter to not be stabilized and grind against the ring...
