Aluminum doesn't change color when heated. The first indication that your too hot (~660 C) is when the over heated area drips to the floor

Needs some volts and amps for your 24 trolling kicker ?

Auditable noise isn’t the issue. PW supplies and controls are notorious for EMI emissions. Cross talk with “Maximizer” controls and sonar are a common problem How clean is this supply? I’m running CHIRP @ 80-160 kHz. Don’t want a trolling motor banging away at 150 kHZ

Wiring a 3 wire trim/tilt pump to throttle handle switch

Wire size is a function of load over distance. Splicing a smaller diameter wire on to a larger wire equals the sum of the drops of both wire sizes and lengths.

I use my hammers. It’s all the other tools I’ve collected over the years. Have a hard time passing up quality tools at a bargain whether I’ll ever use them or not. A boxed set of Starrett precision machinist squares from a guy down the road for $3. A full set of Snap on, 1/2 and 3/8” drive...

Quality ball peen hammers heads are forged and hardened, even tempered some times, specially for metal working. Unlike cast steel, a forged head is highly unlikely to splinter or shatter upon impact.

    Length (in inches) = Length (in inches) * Δ Temperature (in °F) * ε (in / °F). Steel = 0.0000065” / °F. Aluminum = 0.0000128” / °F. Pouring boiling water (212F) on 70F aluminum would expanded the hole in the aluminum 0.0018” x hole diameter….0.375 x 0.0018 =0.00068” This assumes you have...

After 20 years of lake boating, tried something completely different

Fish out of Ocean City, Md. and Virginia Beach, Va. on a regular basis. Going back in after dark from a day offshore (40-90 miles out) never gets old. You go from total darkness to just a shimmer of light on the horizon that slowly builds to a city of lights over time. Fished for marlin out...

Penetrating oil and a 1/2” pneumatic impact gun is my go to. Turn air pressure down a bit to loosen up any crud in the threads before going full force. If that doesn’t loosen them, I use two ball peen hammers to break it loose. Place the small end of one hammer on the head of the bolt and...

Identify the thread of this screw from my boat

In machine world, a tolerance is assigned to the dimension based upon the presentation of the number. See below In the case of a 10-24 UNC screw, the “basic” major diameter is 0.190” however, the actual diameter can vary from 0.1890” to 0.1818” diameter. Had this been a 10-32 INF, the basic...
