Re: Starting 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

I was thinking of a coiled air line type. When I wanted I could put water in livewell or turn valve and use the coiled hose to wash the deck/splashwell.

Dale that is exactly what my Dad's Seaswirl came with for the raw water hose. It's a clear blue hose that stays coiled and out of the way. The hook-up is in a draining fish box behind the helm, so that it's stored out of the way and easily used on the deck.

Great for those hot days when the fish aren't biting and I get bored:)

AZLO you could have built it in a year. But from what I have seen it would not have been your style. This boat is more a piece of artwork than a tool to fish out of. Your attention to detail is amazing. Keep on doing what your doing and you will have a show ride. Happy new years man:cool:

Sounds like a fair deal to me...it's not too late to engineer a raw-water washdown apparatus:D

Great idea. I've one in my boat and it's proved to be a blessing - you clean up on the spot. I'm amazed how good salt water is at washing away blood and guts. So Az, I suggest you take up HA's idea and then your fishing buddies can bring the beer. If you drink enough, the washdown will pay for itself in no time! :D

TII

Azlo, I had a washdown hose idea going through my head. If I installed a pump for a livewell, I could install a valve in the line that would divert the water to a hose. I was thinking of a coiled air line type. When I wanted I could put water in livewell or turn valve and use the coiled hose to wash the deck/splashwell. I was thinking of installing it under the splashwell or gunwale. Whatcha think?

I hadn't really considered a washdown deal, hmmmm...

I am watching what you guys are doing.....

Yeah I know Jasoutside, This guys got me thinking. It would be cool to have a live well too. I have a small power washer but i think it would be to strong . And those wasdown pumps are $100 to 200 smack-a-roos. But then again how the hell am I gonna connect a pressure washer to a live well. Back to the drawing board.

I noticed I had an old can of light blue. So tried it on the control cable levers. Also went ahead and installed the shift cable.

So right im at a stopping point, gonna order my bilge pumps and wait for them. But i went ahead & got me an engine stand. Foldable one to save room.

and this is what im gonna tear down.

Great progress Az. You'll be on the water in no time. Can't wait to see you on the water. Maybe one of the Concert on the lake events this summer.

Why are you going to tear it down? Was she a runner? Leakey? If she ran good I just clean it up and bolt it in. How are you going to mount that to a table by the way?

Hmmm, one pump for multiuse Nice. But the valve would have to be 3 way right. I like, I like. I think once i put everything together Im gonna have to sit down & see where I can put the live well also. This is a good idea fshngho.

I wasn't thinking of anything fancy. I know there are LW pumps about what..1850gph? So what if you get a small stream? It's water and will help to clean the deck as well as washing away blood & stuff if you clean in the splashwell area. One valve, direct to the livewell or direct to the washdown valve. Picture an air hose with a blower...whats the difference? It's just a thought, but since you are a 'perfectionist' I will throw the idea at you and if you do it well, then I'll copy you.;) BTW, take your time, you are doing great so don't change a thing.

You're not fooling me Azlo. You just want that engine to be painted that pury blue color.

Got a chance today to do some teardown.

MAH007592.jpg

Drain the fluids, notice how nasty the oil is. At first there were clumps draining.

MAH007595.jpg

Disassembled and removed the head.

MAH007605.jpg

Looking at the cylinders noticed that 2 are rusted superficially.

MAH007603.jpg

Now I also noticed the discoloration on some of the valves.

MAH007602.jpg

Gonna do some reading on this clues and see what I come up with.

Did you by chance run a compression test before you pulled the motor?
