Too bad I sold my old outdrive - I would have sent you the LU housing - get rid of those pirannah chomp marks - you gotta be able to scare a donor housing up from a boat yard.....

Everything looks great. I'm wondering what you plan on doing as far as labels for those sweet switches.

If its a two barrel like mine use the numbers on the side. Go to napa & u can get a rebuild kit for this 2gc carbs. They offer the float seperately. Heres the link.

Hi Azlo:

If you have enough left on your lower unit and don't have the funds for a replacement you should get good results from a "whale tail" type of hydrofoil. You'll find lots of negative opinions for these items but I've had one for years and I wouldn't do without it. I think it's another one of your brilliant ideas. You could even paint it gold, eh?

I'm no whale tale fan but this is actually a pretty good idea. Those Stingray SE sport ones look cool and probably wouldn't have as drastic an effect on handling as the doel fins.

Hi Guys:

I've had my present boat since '03 and it came with a Doel-Fin. While I've read many negative comments I've had nothing but good results from mine including very low speed planing. In my opinion a light boat such as a Starcraft would more likely benefit from a hydrofoil than not. If it's painted gold it will probably help more!

Hi Azlo:

I was just looking online and saw the following:
http://www.mercstuff.com/page12.htm
Look at the bottom of the page and you'll find preformed cavitation plates for your outdrive. It may help.

Re: 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

OK so for now it seems i need to go ahead & repair this drive and deal with it this year or until I can get a new or rebuilt one. So I went ahead and install the water pump. But have run into a little dilema wich has made me do some serious reading. If you notice the old impeller the vanes are facing as if the shaft was moving counter clock wise.

MAH010331.jpg

I was gonna install the impeller the same but for grins & giggles  I read on the correct way of installing or direction of the impellers blades. It seems it doesnt matter since they position themselfs to the drag (not to scrape) on the housing to the direction of the turn of the engine. Wich in this case is counterclockwise. Looking at the front of the engine it turns clockwise, looking at the flywheel it turns counterclockwise. You guys dig? So I turned the shaft same way of the flywheel and turned the blades to drag that direction. Ok so far except that when I compare it to the old impeller it sits opposite!

MAH010391.jpg

Ok,, no problem. According to reading it will be ok, right? Because it automatically straightens itself out. OK, so why does the old impeller facing as if it was scraping the housing instead of dragging????

Sometime they DON'T reverse themselves and WILL run in the housing in a scraping mode. Appears this happened to yours. Been Known to happen. I ALWAYS install em to DRAG!!
