Well it seems I have been persueded by the Starmada to restore the Holiday over the winter. The weather has started to cool down I decided to start to tear into it. I feel I got quite a bit done this morning.

This morning I got the deck and foam pulled out. The foam in the bottom was all black and nasty. I'm hoping to have paint stripped by the end of the weekend but my weekend is pretty booked so we shall see how it goes .

Bobcat engine hoist is totally cheating!:p

OK buddy, I am looking at a whole lot of green vinyl that needs to be pulled off. Make sure you eat a good hearty breakfast on the day you decide to pull that off:D Steak and eggs sort of a morning ya know:)

Awesome... I'm in the middle of getting mine done... What size gas tank is that? Looks much larger than mine...

Can't wait to see your progress!

Hopefully this weekend, I think I might give it a good soaking with degreaser first, alot of oil and gunk in the bottom there.

The bobcat sure saved me alot of time. Ya the green vinyl is gonna go, probably go back in with grey, blue or white.

It's an 18 gallon tank. I think I will probably put a poly tank back in when the time comes.

Nice work. You're flying. It gets to be more fun after the all the dirty work is done.

I've got the 18 gal poly version of the tank from Moeller. You can order multiple dimension tanks with the hold down brackets, etc for pretty cheap. Bass Pro had them surprising cheap last time I looked but there are better deals out there I'm sure...maybe even IBoats :)

Re: 1973 Starcraft Holiday

The green is for sure nostalgic 70's, but it's gonna have to go. It's just not my style :).

Didn't get near as much done this weekend as I wanted. Well, actually I didn't get hardly anything done . I got rubrail inserts pulled out from one side and that's it. I hope to get some more done before the ground starts to turn white.
I have been looking around at fishing gear. I think I will turn this into my dedicated fishing boat. I have decided a bow mount trolling motor is probably out of the picture. With the closed bow I just don't feel it will be very effective. I will probably just throw that 9.9 Johnson on the transom. I have also been looking at some bert tracks and downriggers. Any feedback on those would be great. The electric ones look really nice but the price is . We shall see when the time comes. Maybe santa will be good to me this year .

Did you end up selling that little OB Johnson? That would go well on there, heck you could probably go as low as 6 or 8 hp I'd bet.

Yah, Berts Tracks and Downriggers are going to be budget monsters:eek: Those two items probably equal more than what I have spent on the entire Islander rebuild. Including the Merc V6.

Boatnut, sorry to divert the conversation but... what was the final story with the Chieftain?

Yep, still got the Johnson. Didn't have any hits on craigslist so I decided to keep it. It has the 5" leg extension so I will have to do some measuring but I'm sure it will work. I know I will invest in the tracks, fewer holes to fill in on the gunwales :D. I have never used a downrigger before but I sure would like to learn. I will probably bite the bullet and buy good ones as I plan on fishing alot more in the coming years.

We were going through some hard times financially so unfortunatly I had to sell :(. We ended up selling our Crestliner so I picked up this with part of that money. I already had gluvit, ply and epoxy from the Chieftain project and hated to see all that money go to waste. Someday I would like to get another Chief or an Islander when the time is right.

Not all may agree with me but in my opinion a long shaft is ideal for a kicker. It's not like it's going to plane the boat anyway and if you're out in some nasty weather, a long shaft won't bob out of the water during wave action like a short shaft might.

X2 what EZ said - sounds to me like you already have the perfect kicker on hand! Nothing to buy:D Cool!

That actually makes sense. The kicker bracket I have for it has about 4-5" of up and down travel so I will just have to find where the best spot would be to mount it where I can make use of both the up and down adjustment. A 9.9 is actually probably a little big for the boat so putting it deeper in the water would probably help slow it down some.
