Re: 1973 Starcraft Holiday

Too right Drew! Sorry, here try this...

"now you don't have to buy an OB kicker!!"

Lil more accurate anyway;):)

That's better, even though it will need some maintenance items. Water pump, lower unit seals and the last time I ran it it started really hard so I will probably need to rebuild the carb as well. Oh and I broke the rewind spring on the pull start a couple weeks ago as well. It also needs fresh paint and decals:facepalm:. I guess it will give me something else to do over the winter.

It shows your location as Nebraska, I was wondering why the need for down riggers in Nebraska???, Do you have water deep enough and big enough??

You could always look into snap weights to get deeper and you inline planner boards to spread you set out,...Much Much cheaper than down-riggers,...

Look for a book called "Precision Trolling Guide" or something like that, I think Mark Romanack is the author,.......I refer to it in my boat as "The Bible",.....

Re: 1973 Starcraft Holiday

The reason I want downriggers is once I get the boat done I would like to make it to the great lakes for a week every year. Your right though, none of the nearby lakes are deep enough to use downriggers but there are a few within 4 hours where I could use them.

Re: 1973 Starcraft Holiday

I guess that's a reason,...

I have been know to use snap weights up to 10 oz's as a poor mans downrigger,.....

That's the long term plan anyway. Most of the area lakes aren't over 30' deep so it's usually not a problem to fish the bottom.
Took her to the carwash today and started washing out the inside. It's kind of a slow task as the water drains out slow but another trip and I should have it finished. If the weather is decent tomorrow I plan on starting to strip the paint. Should go pretty quick.

My little girl got ahold of a scotchbrite pad. I think she wants me to go the brushed aluminum route. We shall see ;)

Your an animal! Had I known that you were so good at that in July you would have had an all expenses paid trip to Maine for a week.

I'm about 95% done stripping the sides and transom, just a few spots to touch up. Only worked on it for a couple hours today as we went fishing as well. Got one bass but my daughter was scared of it and it was time for her nap. Last time we went out she loved the fish. Heres some redundant photos but I know you all love them :)

I'm hoping to get it flipped on Sunday so I can get the bottom stripped. Hope everyone has a great Friday!

I might have missed it but how long is she?

I totally love that cherry picker by the way. Green is not my favorite color either. Very nostalgic to the early 70's Starcrafts, but it seems no one will repaint that color. I'll probably go white and blue or black, safe classic colors.

Which of the Great Lakes you have your eye on? Michigan is the closest and salmon there is pretty good, not as good as years past though.

Alright, I got it flipped this morning witout incident, really didn't take to long. I also got some paint stripped off the bottom. I was thinking about leaving it bare but it looks pretty rough. Looks like someone sandblasted it at one time.

Were gonna go out next Friday Saturday and Sunday to. Heres some pics, I know you guys like fish pics about as well as boat pics ;)

The knife got to him before he could get us. :D He did tear up our hands a bit though with his teeth. For some reason he didnt like the stringer getting pushed through him
