Re: 1973 Starcraft Holiday

Thanks for posting that up Jason, I've been searching for that pic for awhile now. I did get the 4.3 winterized today, it's sposed to get awfully chilly this week. I hope I got all the water drained out, I pulled all the plugs and a bunch of hoses off anyways. I drained the water out of the 165 and 140 a couple weeks ago so I should be covered there.

Re: 1973 Starcraft Holiday

I have been working on a bobcat for a guy I work with. Some of you might of seen it's what I took the engine out of the Holiday with. It looks like I'll be finishing it up next week. I have been working on the thing for a year and a half as work and kids keep me pretty busy. The deal was I do the work for him and he would give me a boat he had. It's been in dry storage since the mid eighties so hopefully all is solid. It even comes with the legendary leg of death . Here's a link to some information if anyone is interested. http://silverlineboats.org/1974-02.jpg

What ya going to do with it? It's big!

I'll spruce it up over the winter, get everything up to date ya know. It will sleep 4 adults comfortably in the cabin, which is cool. The thing I like about it most is the engine sits under the deck, so that makes a whole lot more room up above. If I can get the motor running and the transom is solid, I will keep the stringer for now. I already know the drive is good as I tested it. When I get a big enough shop I will start looking for a 5.7, Alpha One to drop in.

But, But, But, Where are the rivets???????

There's a few in there holding some trim on :D

Im not a downrigger pro or anything but Ive used them quite a bit in the Puget Sound and nearly everyone I see or fish with uses Scotty Downriggers. So I think those Berts or whatever the correct name is must be a midwest thing.Look at Scottys from the sound of it they will save you alot of money for something you want to use for a week a year.Just another idea for you.

The "Berts" yous are talking about is a mounting system for donwriggers and rod holders that is very popular on Lake Erie, For good reason as it works very well for many people style of fishing,...

Myself I am more inclines to use snap weights as opposed to downriggers,.........

I'm actually leaning towards Big Jon downriggers or possibly cannon. I have a while to figure it out though as the boat is currently in hibernation.

Re: 1973 Starcraft Holiday

Yesterday I went to pull the boat out of the shed so I could bring it home to start working on it again. I got out there and the padlocks were cut and laying on the ground. I opened the shed doors and the boat was gone as well as a bunch of my tools. Seems to be my luck these days. Filed a police report hoping I might be able to find it but I'm not gonna hold my breath. With the price of scrap aluminum right now somebody probably hauled it off to the scrapyard for a quick few bucks. I will probably call some of the nearby scrapyards as well to see if anything has been brought in and for them to keep their eye out for it.

I would check some local pawn shops too. If you see any of your tools - Call the cops and let them track down the perps. Sorry, man.

Really sorry to hear about your boat. There are alot of SCUMBAGS living is the country. I hope you find your boat and the SCUMBAGS get caught next time while in the act and the owner unloads some buck shot in there backside.
Your boat was really looking good. Good Luck finding it.

Re: 1973 Starcraft Holiday

Thanks fellas, I'm really hoping I can find it. I had put alot of time into it that I can't ever get back. If I don't find it i'll just start looking for another one. Though I really don't want to start all over again.
