I'm pretty much done with her. Just need to replace bilge pump hose....and install switches for nav lights and bilge pump. New carpet(or maybe paint) will come at a later date.

Really nice job of putting that boat together. I'm impressed at how fast you move from, " I'm thinking about..." to " here is a shot of it finished."
Keep enjoying that boat.

Yeah, once I put my mind to something....I pretty much have to get it done or it'll drive me nuts.

If budget wasn't an issue....I'd be painting it also. That'll probably happen this fall.

My resto is nothing compared to many I've seen done here, but I'm very happy with it. I did it on a very tight budget.

Motor/controls $140 (I pretty much stole it)
Boat- $415 ($475 for boat minus $60 bucks I got for old gas cans and 2 old pin-drive props that came with boat)
Plywood- $180 (4 sheets of Arauco)
Spar Varnish- $90
Paint- $15
Noodles/Foam $100
Misc stuff $20
Bimini Top- FREE
Seats $40
_____________
Total= $1000 bucks

Hey Bonair - you did great for only dropping a grand. You know a boat is never done though. :D

Ain't that the truth! I'm always thinking of additional things to add/tweak.

A small swim platform would be nice. Currently I have a ladder that hangs over the side. Haven't used it on this boat yet cause I'm worried that the feet on the middle of the ladder might dent the side of the boat.

I wouldn't mind adding some led strip lighting(if I start doing any night fishing).

Took the boat out today and my son got a chance to try out the new casting deck. A couple minutes of fishing and BAM....the casting deck was christened....:D

One thing, I didn't figure in when designing the deck was the fact that the boat sits lower at the stern(battery/2 tanks of fuel/ and fisherman). The pedestal base should have been installed leaning a bit forward toward the bow to offset the lean angle.

I'm probably going to shim the wood pedestal base a tad to correct it.

Re: 1975 Super Sport 16' boat requesting admission to the Starmada!

A little more progress....

I finally hooked up my nav lights and bilge pump to switches(under the splashwell)

Relocated my fishfinder to the starboard side of the bow, so I can see if clearly from the helm through the windshield.

Found a swim platform on CL for $20 bucks and mounted it tonight. The bottom mounting holes are below the floor, so I've 2 options....cut a hole in the floor under the splashwell so I can reach in and tighten the nut. OR I'm going to have to pickup a couple toggle bolts so I can tighten them from the outside of the transom.

Swim platform will end up being painted white.

Crappy pic taken in the barn.

Very nice! Great price on that boat and supplies. That's a steal.

Did a lot of great work there. I also like those fish, nice catches.

Wow, BonairII you have made excellent progress from tear down to 2nd splash!! The swim ladder looks great, something we might add to our SS as we have the portable ladder too. Your top-end speed with the 75 hp is about 7-8 kts faster than our 60 hp Yammie. I am only running a 17 pitch for the prop and it will move 2-5 people out of the hole and maintain a plane without high revving the engine. Your SS looks awesome congrats on the completion.

The swim platform has def been a great addition to the boat. We've used it on 3 occasions so far and it SO much better than dealing with a ladder. Will also come in handy should I ever decide to swap props while out on the middle of the lake.

I haven't done much to the boat lately other than some minor wiring, cleaning, tweaking etc. Much more fun swimming and catching fish on the boat than working on it.

I def need to install guide-on rails for the trailer. We're pretty good at loading the boat now, but it turns into a real pain when it's windy....not to mention the fact that loading the boat by myself will be tough without guide-ons. Just waiting for the "money fairy" to stop by my house so I can buy them.

Just a quick vid of us running to our fishing spot today. Water was pretty flat.....which has been a rarity here over the past couple weeks.

While they may seem like overkill, the bunk-style guides that came with my trailer are the bee's knees. http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/New Boat/IMG_0460.jpg I had shorter single pole upright ones on my Jupiter trailer and they were fairly useless.

I found these and got the seller down to $65 bucks. I'll be picking them up in the morning.

Re: 1975 Super Sport 16' boat requesting admission to the Starmada!

Picked up the guide-ons today. In reality, it's 2 sets of guide-ons. One set is metal with rollers....the other pair is a set of tall PVC rails.

The PVC rails are a bit short on the bottom so they don't fit well on the very back of my trailer(and the roller bunk bracket is in the way), so I'm going to mount them on the fender. Going to have to drill holes in the fender to mount them.

The roller guide-ons mounted fairly easily on the trailer frame. I had to shim the bracket so the roller came up on the correct angle to ride against the side rub rail and the strake(if that's the correct term).

Re: 1975 Super Sport 16' boat requesting admission to the Starmada!

Tried to install the large PVC rails and they didn't work out too well with my trailer. I posted them on CL a couple hours ago....and I've already sold them! Sold them for $40 bucks.....so it only ended up costing me $25 bucks for the set I kept.

I do love good 'ole Craigslist! :D

Spring is just around the corner, so it's time together working on the boat.

I pulled the casting deck so I can redesign it. I want to install hatches and mount the troller battery in the bow.

I want to square up the walk-thru opening in the casting deck, so I pieced in some wood rather than throwing the whole deck away and starting over.

Once I get the consoles out, I'm seriously considering raising them up a bit. I got the idea from the other active SS resto thread.

Lookaa food BII --- I too like the deck squared up like you have now done. I like your idea to not throw the whole deck away and start over too. What else is on tap aside from the proposed console raise??? Just throwing it out --- but instead of raising the whole console, have you considered just raising the windshield up instead? Just throwin' it out there!! :)

I like the idea of being able to sit higher...but I'm not sure about the looks of the raised consoles.

How would I raise the windshields(fairly easily)?

The casting deck on the rear is deeper than the splash well by about a foot....so I'm going to bring the sliding doors forward(which will give me more storage space under the splash well.

The casting will either be carpeted or painted white with sand in the paint.

Well it depends on how high you want to raise it... but suppose it is 2.5" --- you would likely need to make square shaped frame so that you can bolt the windshield to it.... but with one side of it not attached at first so you can get the nuts on and tightened. Also, the frame can be screwed top down inside the box before the final side is put on it. Hopefully you can visualize that! :O

PS - Looking good with the casting deck!

Does your windshield currently run out on to & down the gunwale? If you change the console height or raise the windshield you need to address the change in height along the gunwale.

Wheeldriver raised his consoles & trimmed the windshield to fit:

My Starcraft SS 16' project

If you want to just raise the windshield, an aluminum square tube might be sufficient:

2" X 3" Rectangle tube

Raising just the windshield would allow you to run the tube out on the gunwale too. Many consoles have a slight curve to the top that may make just raising the windshield more difficult then it seems.

It's hard to tell from your pix, but it looks like yours does have a slight curve to the top of your consoles.

I can't seem to find it, but somewhere in here, someone else did a 'raising the windshield' mod on their tinny but I can't seem to find it.... I think they used plywood.

Nice work on the 2 platforms.
