Re: 1975 Super Sport 16' boat requesting admission to the Starmada!

More progress tonight.....

I cut off the front portion of the bow rail to make room for my trolling motor. I pulled the entire rail off, so I could make the cut in the center of the joint...so it leaves me the option to reinstall the rail in the future, should I want to.

You're making hay, Bonair. I temporarily re-used my carpet too. I'll be watching this space for splash pics.

i have almost the same boat what did you end up doing with the aluminum you pealed back to get to the transom just rip it off and put caps on or did you weld the aluminum back or screw it back trying to figure out a good way to do it here

Re: 1975 Super Sport 16' boat requesting admission to the Starmada!

Made more progress today, but had some delays...so no splash today.

Transferring the motor from my glasser to the tinny was a nightmare. I had to pull the Starcraft from the garage, pull the glasser into the garage...and pull the motor(using a "come along"). That part was somewhat easy.
Then put glasser in the yard and pull Starcraft in garage. As I was hoisting the motor onto the Starcraft the come-along starting to slip from the rafters, so the motor was barely attached to the rafters...and just dangling in the air. I had nobody helping me, so I raced around the garage trying to find rope etc to tie to the motor as a safety, in case the come-along came completely loose.

My son finally got home and we ended up getting the motor hooked up the boat, thank god. I have a feeling that motor might be a touch low. The cav plate is about even with the keel, so I'll probably raise the motor another notch tomorrow.

I got the controls hooked up to the motor and mounted to the boat.

I bolted the fishing seat to the bow and cut down the pedestal to the seat at the helm. The bolts are too long for the helm pedestal base, so I'm either going to have to cut them down or buy shorter ones.

2 of the 4 tires on the trailer were bad, so I stole the almost new tires from my other boat/trailer.

Finally got the steering cable/wheel done. It was a nightmare, also. tach is wired and ready to go.

Will be splashing tomorrow afternoon(fingers crossed).

I had a bad feeling that I screwed up the steering....sure enough, I just checked it and it's reversed. Add another job for me to finish tomorrow. :(

You're almost there. I'll be watching and waiting, good luck with the steering. That sounds like something I would do.

Just cut off the overlap. It's covered by the end caps when you're done anyway.

SPLASH!!!!!!!

Just got back from the lake. Had a good time, it was a huge comedy of errors today.

Launched the boat and was driving the trailer out of the water, and started to the parking lot....when I realized the the plug was OUT! (I had taken the plug out today during a heavy rain that hit while I was home.)

I stopped the car and ran back toward the dock yelling "THE PLUG"" to my son, but of course he couldn't understand me. I jumped in the boat and got the plug in. The bilge pump didn't pump too well, so I just pulled the boat back on the trailer and drained the water.

I re-launched and then had some motor problems. She revved fine, but we weren't speeding up. I'm guessing a spun prop, but it just seems odd that the motor ran fine last week and now the prop is spun the next time out.

I'm going to put on my spare prop tonight and give it a try tomorrow.

Lake was windy/choppy as all heck and I took quite a bit of spray over the bow while just running the trolling motor! (the video was taken before the waves really ramped up.)

To make the day complete....a life jacket blew out of the boat while we drove home(200 yd walk to get it).....THEN a seat cushion blew into the road 10 minutes later.

Aside from all of the drama...we had a great time. Caught the smallmouth on the first cast in the new boat.

Oh man, we did the same thing and forgot to put the plug in the second time out and didn't take the back straps off before launching. But hey congrats on your big splash and catching the fish too

Well Bonair, you just got your Starmada membership card stamped. :D And snagging a smallie on the first cast on splash day, priceless and a sign. Some little probs but all in all, a good float, buddy. Keep on having fun.

Re: 1975 Super Sport 16' boat requesting admission to the Starmada!

The reason I didn't catch the "plug was out" thing...was that there was a DEC officer(game warden) at the ramp checking licenses/fish etc. I got a bit distracted and didn't go through my mental checklist before launching.

The spun prop(maybe) was a disappointment cause I was really curious as to how fast the lighter tinny would go with my 75 horse. A spun prop would suck, but hopefully it's something as simple as that. The really choppy water didn't help my cause either.

Gonna splash again tomorrow, so hopefully I get some WOT time.

Better luck tomorrow, that water was a little active for cruising. Can I ask what body of water that was?

congrats! the Mate looks a bit iffy about the chop but otherwise enjoying it. and it sounds like the comedy of errors could also be called beta testing the bilge pump and finding you might want to get a bigger one.

beta testing the bilge pump and finding you might want to get a bigger one.

I'm def going to get an additional bilge pump, but I did get my current pump working well today after some lubing/cleaning.
