Splash #2 today......

It was a resounding success! :D:D:D

Launched without issue and idled out to deeper water. I hit the throttle and the motor pulled us out of the hole like a freight train!

At WOT we hit 34mph @ 6100 with 15 pitch prop(my spare)...and the motor is a notch(or two) too low in the water. And the bow was a bit heavy with trolling motor/fuel/battery etc. I was very pleased with the results.

I'm guessing that I should be able to run a 19 pitch prop with no problem whatsoever.

With a 19 pitch prop, the motor raised another hole, and some weight reduction in the bow...I'm prediction 38+mph. :D

The boat is very stable at speed and the bilge was bone dry after 4 hours in the water.

Re: 1975 Super Sport 16' boat requesting admission to the Starmada!

Update:

We've had the boat on the lake 4-5 times so far....and no probs whatsoever. I haven't even had to pull the plug out cause she hasn't taken on any water at all.

I finally mounted my fishfinder(on the bow) and installed a small transducer mounting board, so I can adjust the transducer without having to drill into the boat.

I relocated the trolling motor battery to the area under the port side console.

I posted an ad on CL looking for a bimini top(reasonably priced) yesterday and got a call from a guy that had one that I could have for FREE. :D The guy even power washed it a bit for me when I picked it up. It was 18" too wide for my boat so I cut it down and temporarily threw it on the boat to get an idea of where I want to install it.

Anyone know what I can use to safely clean it up? It's a light tan color. It's vinyl on top and cordura on the underside.

congrats on the re-splash! nice fish too.

that is one weird trailer....tandem under a 16' tinnie that maybe weighs 600#?? and with either 8 or 12" wheels?

are you planning on making the casting deck removable?

Yeah...trailer is weird. I stole the "almost new" tires from my other trailer and mounted them on the tandem....so I have 2 diff sizes on it now. The trailer obviously tilts toward the van because the rear set of tires is larger than the front set. I'll be replacing the smaller tires soon.

Haven't thought about making the rear casting deck removeable. Any ideas how to do that?

Scored 4 folding swivel pedestal seats off CL today for $10 bucks each. The bases need a little sanding/paint, but no tears or stains on any of the seats.

I'll eventually get better seats/pedestals.....but they'll work just fine for as long as I decided to keep them.

Nice job on the re-splash! Glad everything went a lot smoother. A 17 pitch is a nice combo of power and speed for that motor without over revving it. 6100 rpm is a tad high for that motor --- just something to keep in mind.

Nice score on the seats man!!! You even color coordinated... :)

Lookin' good!!

Yeah, my 17p prop seems to have a low speed vibration so I've been using the 15p. I like the low end grunt and holeshot it gives me. I normally keep her under 6 grand when running flat out, but I've read here that these motors happily run at 6 grand or so. I just wish I could remember what threads discussed that fact.

To be honest that casting deck looks a smidge precarious mounted all they way up top like that. I built mine down in the boat a bit: http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/New Boat/IMG_0483.jpg

Do you have a service manual for your motor? They list the WOT RPM range. (if you don't have one, you should absolutely buy this NOW http://www.ebay.com/itm/REAL-OEM-FA...anuals_Literature&hash=item4ab81fabab&vxp=mtr)

By the way, I loved you on Dirty Jobs :p:p:p

I'm going to mount a pedestal seat over the splashwell crossmember.

My WOT throttle range is 5300-5800 according to the tag on the motor. I do have a factory service manual also.
Running 5% higher than recommended max rpm shouldn't cause any probs. The motor has VERY low hours(PO bought it new and ran it for 3-4 seasons....then stored it from 1980 til now).
I'll probably pick up another 17p prop when I find one reasonably priced on ebay etc.

I look like Mike Rowe? LOL. That's funny.

I would double check the width of the cut out for the motor for steering radius and tilt when you are have the engine up. Looks like its a tight fit from the pic. You could use quick release ball lock pins to hold it in place, and easily remove the pins to remove the casting deck.

I've tested the fitment with motor up and down and turned in both directions....I made the opening "just right".

So far, I've just cut out the shape of the casting deck and haven't come up with a way to attach it to the boat yet. I've thought about bolting 90 channel on the inside of the gunwales....and letting the deck rest on it.

I'm open to any/all suggestions regarding bolting the deck to the boat (including making the deck removeable)

I'm also waffling on the final size of it. Currently, it's 36" deep which means it runs past the splashwell(toward the bow) by about a foot. If I leave it that way, it will give me more storage room under the splashwell area but will take up floor space in the boat. I'm going to mock up the deck with one of the swivel seats and see if I'll really need the deck to be that deep.

More progress today....

Painted the seat bases then installed them (will be painting the black brackets on the seats later on)

Installed the casting deck seat. Casting deck just needs the front edge supported to be complete.

Installing bow seat is next project. I'm going to have to relocate my fishfinder to the starboard side of the bow, so I can see the display from the helm.

I cleaned up the doors and spray painted them. Got them installed.

Mounted a pedestal seat in the bow.

I'm not in love with my homemade pedestal bases, but they'll work just fine til I can replace them.

Doors look great. I'm not sure how well those sheet metal pedestals hold up anyway so I wouldn't sweat the homemade bases for now. Keep your eye on the Springfield scratch and dent store.

The pedestals should hold up awhile(hopefully). The largest person using them is 190lbs(me), so they won't be taxed too much.

That link is for Holiday Inn Express?
