Hello, I am new to the forum and new to Starcraft boats. I just picked up a 1977 Supersport with a Merc 140 I/O w/ trailer for $650. The boat was someone's project but unfortunately he passed away before he could finish it and his widow wanted it gone. The boat has new carpet but the rest of the interior is in boxes. Does anyone have any pictures of what the stock interior should look like? I got the bow figured out but the driver's and passengers areas are baffling me. there are a bunch of other trim pieces that i need to figure out where they go too. The boat is in otherwise great shape. It has a new paint job and grey vinyl diamond tread on the gunwales. I need to get at least the drivers side put together so I can get the boat running before winter to make sure the motor is intact and mechaniclaly sound. I have all winter to do the rest. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome aboard Jack. I can't help with an SS cause I have another Starcraft model. But look at the third sticky in the the Starcraft forum. It has links by model to all the restorations. Most are SuperSports. Lots of pics and information and the guys are free with advice and help. You came to the right place and have fun.

Welcome aboard Jackball42, nice boat you've got there.

If you are looking for original details, check out the brochures. There is a link in my signature to a pretty good collection.

Here's a photo of what my '79 SS looked like when I bought it. Fairly original except for the carpet and bow platform.

Here are some updated pictures. I am working on getting the box done so I can reinstall the drivers cockpit and get all the gauges hooked back up so I can start this thing. I have cut some new wood and used some of the old. I coated everything in Cuprinol #10 wood preservative to keep it from rotting out again. I recoverd the bow wood in marine capet, it had vinyl on it when I got it. Since this will be a fishing boat I cut out the panels to allow access to the front cargo areas for rods and any other long items. not to be a wet blanket.....but call the mfgr on the Cuprinol before you reassemble the boat and ask em about using it on alum boats or in contact with aluminum. the name (and the appearance in your pics) suggests strongly that it's a copper based solution, and copper reacts with aluminum in a process known as galvanic corrosion. it can eventually eat pinholes in your auminum. basically, your aluminum becomes a sacrificial anode.

that's a REALLY nice boat and i'd hate to see you kicking yourself later. i may be full o carp, but when i just looked at the mfgr's site, i saw nothing about using it in marine applications.

barato2 - In extremely corrosive conditions where aluminium and aluminium alloys will normally corrode, timber treated with Cuprinol Preserver Green can have an accelerating effect. In this case the aluminium should be treated (before fitting) with a specialist metal primer for non-ferrous metals, and the treated wood painted with a bitumen or aluminium based primer. I have primed and painted the metal parts that will come into contact with the Cuprinol using an etching primer for aluminium. Also, the boards that come into contct with aluminium have been wrapped with marine carpet so the Curpinol will not come directly into contact with aluminium.

I appreciate your concern and thanks for making me take a 2nd look at it.

OK, cool, sounds like you've done your homework and are well aware of the issue. wasn't trying to be a jerk or know it all. dying to see pics of how your boat turns out.

No worries, I appreciate you raising the point and I took a second look at it.

On a less positive note, I need a 10' sheet of 1/2 plywood to replace my rotten side panels. Fortunatley I found a local lumber yard that can get me a sheet of exterior grade out of KC for about $50.

I ordered some large head rivets and some other hardware from McMaster Carr today. Things are starting to shape up.

I have started to assemble the front platform. Getting everything to line up has been a real treat  . Cabelas had seats 50% off so I ordered four of the big man seats to match the interior colors. I found where Springfield Marine has a scratch and dent store and the seat pedastals are much cheaper there. Things are coming along. I will post some new pics this evening.

You can scarf that ply to make longer pieces. Learned it from researching wooden boat building.

Here are some shots of the interior of my 83 16' SS for your reference. My consoles are original.

Progress is looking good.

Re: 1977 Starcraft SUS 18' I/0 - Need interior help

Sorry for not posting any more pictures yet. I got tied up with honey do stuff. I hope to have some later this week. My 10' plywood arrived and I got my new side panels ripped down to size. I plan on getting the front done this weekend and should have some good pics to share.

I plan on using floor mount pedestals like this one Floor base.jpg. Does anyone have experience mounting these in the floor and what should I look out for? I have to cut about a 3 in hole in the floor for each one.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to double up the deck in the area where you plan to mount those.

Indeed. That's what I did with mine.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge but what do you mean by "deck" those areas? I assume you mean add another layer of plywood to reinforce it?
