Re: Well I did it now! 67 Islander Rebuild

Well did not get a whole lot done yesterday as I had a booboo. Was out stripping paint and was having to use a ladder to get to the top of the boat cabin. Well some jack***** was walking his dog on a leash and let him get way out and was not paying attention, well said dog went under the ladder and I did not notice till to late. The guy yelled at said dog and he went around bottom of ladder and ripped it out from under me. So yea, spent some time visiting the doc in the box being checked out. Have a couple of ribs that were out of place and that hurt like you would not believe. And if I could have gotten my breath back after I got up I was gonna do some butt kicking, but the guy ran away. Did not even check to see if I was ok. I know he lives close by somewhere and one of these days I am going to see him again and thank him for rearranging my rib cage and ask if I can return the favor.

Well today I did some more stripping of paint and that just sucks. I was not really fast doing stuff either, still kind of hurts to move certain ways. But I was working on it all the same. Did get another coat of epoxy on the transom and the window board. Moving along slowly, sorry no pics today guys, was just not in the mood to deal with a camera today.

The least he could of done was see if you were ok. Some people just don't care. His time will come.

Those dislocated ribs hurt, and once out the go out easier. You need to take it easy for awhile. Keep them where they should be.

Hey BN I agree with you, he will get his. And if I have my way I will be there to help out as well.

That is what sucks heyyou, I have had them out before. Got kicked in the chest by my horse with both back feet:eek:, laid me up for a few weeks when it actually happened. And it seems it takes longer to heal each time, and this is the 4th time:facepalm:

Kelly - be careful up there! You are making really good progress. Only problem is your Islander is NEKKID! Stay healthy and get her covered with paint.

Oh man Puget, that would be just to sweet. I might even get enough to finish the old girl up buddy. Sad thing is I am not one to do that kind of thing, would rather settle things myself, and believe it or not I would like to do it peacefully. Now if he happens to get mouthy and all that, well I am not responsible for what happens then.

Hey there GA, yea I try to be careful. I should have had the bottom of the ladder tied off but did not. Yes she is getting nekkid, not there all the way yet. And when I get to painting here, she is only going half way down with bare aluminum the rest of the way. I am waiting for BigHoss to do the shark hyde on his boat and see how it turns out.

Must be a thing with horses took a couple out when I got thrown breaking one. Then my boy went to jump over me when he was 14 and landed right in the middle of my back and did it again. He's 26 now and just got married. Numerous times since. So take it easy awhile. It won't do you any good to get the boat done if you don't feel like using it.

Some say '"it takes all kinds" I say there are some we can live without. We should have a resto war wound thread.

I agree with ya Mike, just some that could be done without that is for sure.

Well nothing done on the boat yesterday, was getting truck ready for the trip to Idaho.

Did drill holes in my transom wood and then filled in with epoxy is all that I got done as far as the water craft thing goes.

Had to wash the truck up and then clean about 10 lbs of jack out of it, man that dog sheds like crazy. I had planned on working on the boat but it took us all day to detail the truck so that we could go. The wife wants to take the truck so that Jack can go with us. I figure what I am saving on boarding costs for Jack that it will just about pay for the fuel that it will take to fill the truck verses the KIA. And the truck is a whole lot more comfortable to drive as well.

Kelly Good for you . you need a bit of a rest it is also a good thing to let the project and rest also. Where in the great State of Idaho are you heading??I also lived there in the Nampa -Boise area for three years. Great state if you like to stream-river fish. Have a safe trip - watch out for the other guy.

You got nothin to see your kids. I just did between 4600 and 4700 miles of perfect boat building weather to see mine. Now my daughter is coming for a visit next weekend (10 year class reunion). That weekend will be out too. Hope your ribs are better. Since yo're taking your pickup, if you hurry with your boat you can put it in the snake down there. They probably aren't catching anything down there either.

Heyyou, I don't think that I could put it back together that quick even if I had everything there to put it back together. And as far as catching anything, I have heard that there is nothing coming out right now according to my son. American Falls is going over the spillway from what he has said, so its full and that mean fishing bites or not bites however you want to think about it. I know that the drive is not that far compared to some but it is a long ways and hard for me to make very often bud.

I think everything in Idaho is pretty much running full bore now. And I was trying to give you incentive to get the boat going. Gonna look great when it's finished. Going across the Gorge always feels longer than it is. Have a good visit with the kids.

Yea I think that if you find something that is not full in Idaho then it is a pond that is an overflow for something else.

I appreciate the boost to get me going on the boat, and I have been trying. I just get a bit discouraged at time is all. I was looking at it last night and was thinking how hard it would be to make it an open bow:eek:. Not so sure the wife was to fond of that idea though, she just gave me THE LOOK . I want to work on it more but after working 12 hours and a total of a couple hours of driving a day, just not going to happen on work days. I really thought I would be a lot further along than what I am at this point. I also never figured I would take it apart as far as what I have either. Just wonder what in the world I got myself into by doing this.

I dont mind driving in the gorge, it is all the lifeless bleak land that is after it. I enjoy the gorge and the mountains but the dessert really bites buddy.

Sorry to hear about the ladder incident Kelly...sounds like that guy's dog might've had more common sense that he did.

I'll bet he blames it on the dog too..."you won't believe what my dog did..." :(

Hope you can mend up on the road trip so you can get back to work:)

Yea HA, I am pretty sure he is blaming the dog and I do believe that the dog is the smarter of the 2.

Thanks bud and all those that have wished me well. The ribs are doing ok but the knee on the other hand is giving me fits. But I will heal just not as fast as used to.

We are leaving on Thursday morning and we are going to have a lot of fun even if I have to force the wife to have fun:D
