Those are some good ideas there heyyou about the mud flap and tubing.

Wish I had a garage that I could put mine into, it won't fit into the one that I have. So it sits in the driveway under a tarp and I work on it when I can. I to am almost to the point of gluvit, well maybe not. Need to seal up some corrosion in the bottom first and then fill with water and do a leak check. After all loose rivets are tightened (not if loose) I will then glovit the inside of the hull.

Sorry dude, not gonna trade this wife with anyone. Took me a couple of tries to get one that is trained the right way:D, now I have to watch out for flying fry pans. She will probably use my camping cast iron ones:eek:

As for the new toy....tool box, I think that was cause she was tired of tripping over all my toys on the floor when I was working.

Re: Well I did it now! 76 Islander rebuild

So I have yet another question now. I am going to be slipping my boat in the spring and fall for probably a month at a time and was wondering about paint. Should I put an antifouling paint on her bottom or would the rusto be good enough? Yes I am way ahead of myself here but just something that I think I should know before getting all worked up over nothing like I am good at:facepalm:.

I've been wondering the same thing. Thinking about a couple of coats of epoxy below the waterline to help seal as my boat is double hull, and then rusto. But I'm sure we will both find out. And I'm not as far as I thought. Remeasured my inboard and have to line up better, it's a half inch off in the front. Only kidding on the trade, mine would never ok it, she's not thru tormenting me yet.

A month? I'm thinking that puts you in two-part marine paint territory. Send a PM to Bond-o though, I think he MAY Rusto his boats that stay in the water.

Yea a month, like this spring it would have been. Steelies have been running for a few weeks and the springers are just starting even though they are shutting down salmon season next Monday:mad:. Everyone I have talked to have said it is the earliest it has ever shut down:(. It would just make it so much easier to just leave it in a slip especially since I am only a few blocks from the marina in the first place.:)

Was out driving today and look what attacked my truck and would not let go.

Found an add for $350 for the boat, I thought what kind of carp is this going to be. Jack and I went for a ride to check it out. Turns out the guy took it in to be serviced and found that it needs a new drive shaft bellows and a new gimble bearing. He is out of work and just had knee surgery and not getting around to well. Said he could not afford to pay to fix it and was getting rid of it. I was not sure that I really wanted it and kind of ho hummed around and he came back and asked if I had a $100 bucks? I was not looking to get it cheaper but he offered and I took it. So now I have a good running motor and a good outdrive with tilt and trim where I just had tilt with my original motor. The running motor and outdrive was confirmed from the marine tech that worked on it.:D

And I don't think that the trailer looks to bad either, it is a roller trailer. It has good tires on it as well as bearing buddies and the tongue jack works very well.

And as you can also see, you can get a bigger boat on this trailer as well, which will help when it comes to selling it.

The ujoints look a little rusty so they will be replaced just so I have a warm fuzzy about them.

Here you can see the dual lines for tilt and trim:cool:. There is also a small swim step as well if I want to use it on the Islander:) or sell it.

100_0273.jpg

There is also a working fishfinder on it and there is also a fuel tank under the bow. But forgot to ask how big it was:facepalm: and cannot see it real well at this point. There are also other things that I can salvage to sell and I think that I will come out ahead on this deal. If not then at least break even after I get rid of the hull which I understand is rather spendy here, but oh well. Just how things go I guess.

Kelley Is that your better half blocking the entrance to the garage ? Mabey she is totaly overjoyed and had to take it all in. LOL actually thats a nice boat. My wife is leaving for Albany do you want her to stop by on the way and take the trailer off your hands??? Thought not. Big jobs ahead and weather finally getting better just wish it would quit raining. I cant move a thing without getting it muddy. Pugetsound

Between striping the hull the windshield. bow rails horn and swim thing and trailer you will be a couple of hundred ahead. Put it all on craigslist. A bad thing there tho is to many people know what you got and where its at.off of craigslist.

Here is the funny part. I was sitting on the couch when she got up and we went outside for a smoke, she works graveyard. We go out in the garage and open the door and she is expecting to see the grill of the truck and sees the stern of the boat. Oh man if looks could have killed I think I would have been killed several times over:eek:.

Dude, if i had the boat stripped I would say yes in a heart beat. You would just have to dispose of the hull and I would not worry about it:D

Yea it is going to be a huge job for a while, and since I am going to be salmon fishing tomorrow it is not going to get anything done with it. Yea the rain sucks, new said today that we have had twice the amount of normal rain this year. Kind of sick of it now.

I am hoping that I will be ahead that is for sure. I was also thinking the CL thing as well, and don't really care if they know where I got it. The price will be price it is going to be, there will always be wiggle room in the price.;) Might wind up cutting her up into little pieces and sending them out with the garbage.:D

If I don't go out fishing tomorrow then I will get some pics up so you guys can see the inside of the boat. It is almost temping to fish the gimble bearing and bellows and run her for a while. The bad part is that I am sure if the landlords drive by they are not going to be pleased that the yard is full of boats and trailers....lol Never in my life did I ever think that I would be owning a boat and now have 3 within a year. And on top of that I am rebuilding one and had no idea how a boat really operates. So yea this is going be a busy thing that is for sure.

OK, so I read through your new donor purchase like three times and I still don't see where you said what the heck engine is in there Kelly:confused::confused:

So what is it??

120? 140? I6? I6 would be sweet!:D Your OD tells me it's probably not the 4.3.

If I missed it I am a big dumb head.

By the way, awesome score!!!!

Nope you are not a big dumb head there buddy, I never said what it was. It is a 140 HP Mecruizer. I was having kind of a rough day yesterday and just kind of forget to say what it was. Dang blood sugar sure can mess with a persons thinking sometimes. Funny thing is everything feels really solid for a 77, thought things would feel spongy inside but they don't.

Yea I think that I will enjoy it once I get it through my head not to just fix it and use it till I am ready to do the heart transplant on the Islander.

let not your resolution waver, my son.....you've been looking for a good drivetrain for many moons and now you got one. :):) and in a fashion that you almost can't help but MAKE $ on. you're my Bottom Feeder Working Class Hero!

wish i could see video of that moment when your wife first saw it.....:D:D mine reacted about the same, but now that motor is in SC and donor is gone to dump, she sees the wisdom.

someone jokingly mentioned sawing it up, but with a sawzall and a friend who occasionally has space in a dumpster, that's very doable. you'll be sawing it up a bunch to get the fuel tank out from under floor (it's prolly 18-20 gal based on what i've seen in similar boats)(but it will likely be too wide to fit between your SC stringers due to the tank shapes they use on those shallow-vee ski hulls), and i'd recommend that you just saw out the dashboard with all the gauges and controls intact and still connected to their various wires. wish i was in your area, we could have it reduced to Useful/Salable Parts and dumpster sized pieces in an afternoon....FUNFUNFUN!!!!in a juvenile destructive sort of way :D:D

Yes I have been looking for a drivetrain for some time now and I am really happy to now have one. I am really excited that is for sure as I can see that it is not costing me a ton of money for a drivetrain like I was afraid it was going to do. And I think that I can make a profit on this deal as well, just will take some time and energy is all.

wish i could see video of that moment when your wife first saw it..... mine reacted about the same, but now that motor is in SC and donor is gone to dump, she sees the wisdom

Oh dude, a video would have been priceless. I was laughing my rearend off while she just stood there staring and saying why is there another boat in the driveway. But after showing her some pricing on outdrives and motors and what not she is all for the idea now. But it was way funny.

Yea it would be cool if you were in the area bud, would be nice to have someone help with this that is for sure. And it would be a lot of fun having someone to share this with and just enjoy the company as well. Don't have a lot of friends around here, a lot of acquaintances but not friends. And yes it will be fun being destructive as you said, lots of fun:D
