Re: Well I did it now! 67 Islander Rebuild
This is not my boat Jason, I am going to go look at it today. It is still a cabin boat but with a bracket on it. But I do agree that it would be a heck of a transformation though.
Thanks for stopping by LonLB, it is going to be outside and there is always a breeze blowing here. I may even be wearing the respirator to do this job. I do know that no smoking while doing it is a must, stuff is highly flamable.
Yea I was thinking that big motor would make an Islander just fly like you would not believe. But was thinking more inbetween the 115 - 150 hp range. Just wanted to get others opinions on what you would think. As for the fuel Jason, that would not be that big of an issue as compared to the cost of an engine that big.
So I am going to go check it out here in a couple hours and see what kind of shape it is in. I would then have 2 22 ft Islander hulls, and boy is my wife ever excited about that.....NOT....
But I guess she is just going to have to understand if I do get it. And I think she is actually cool about it but just giving me a bad time about it.

Cabin boat turned cuddy, IO turned OB on a bracket, now that would be a heck of a transformation.

I know others have applied shark hide, but I'll still say that is some serious stuff. People have died, while using it at boat companies. Of course now they take proper precautions. If your doing it right there, outside, you should be fine. I might still set up a box fan in front of me though.

That Islander could certainly handle something in the 200 + range, but that thing would fly. That would be huge power for that boat especially now that she has no hat on. (you'd need a 2nd job to cover the fuel bill too).
If you don't want a go-fast boat I'd suppose anything in the 115 to 150 range would be plenty comfortable.
horiconducker turned his islander into a SC and used a 150 and said it performed well.....just for comparison.
I spend lots of time on a 23' fiberglass Seaswirl with a full hardtop...and it runs great with a 225hp Yamaha. I'd also recommend a 140-175hp range, it all depends on how fast you need to go
