Capt. Bob,

I do not need a gun to make me feel important. No one knows I have it except me. The LAST thing I want to do is expose it, or worse yet-use it.

Consider me-NOT AFRAID, NOT LITTLE and especially NOT FEARFUL.

Capt. Bob... I carry my gun everywhere I go thats legal to carry under my CC lic. in Floirda and I do not carry out of fear nor do ANY of the many people I personally know that carry...... It is a tool like any other, not a toy, not a object to intimidate with.
YOUR view is wrong and is EXACTLY whats wrong with socialism/liberalism.
Places where families are are prime targets for robbery, terrorism, abduction because those that do not obey the law know where the suckers are...would you like me to email you an endless list of examples?
Back to subject....for firearms in a boat you should carry something of a heavey caliber. .45ACP will jus **** of a bear or gator, .357 magnum AT LEAST and .44 Remington magnum is better for pistols. Nice cheap AK-47 rifle is great for a boat too. They can be bought for $179.00 and 1000 rounds of ammo for $79.00. Rifles may not be allowed in certain conservation areas where you fish as certain pistols also if they can be construed as hunting weapons in posession out of season. Then obviously, you must use personal defense type calibers and guns.
Offshore...I carry Para Ordnance SS Limited .45 ACP with 16 round High cap mags and a Springfield Armory M1A (M14) with about 300 rounds of .30 cal (7.62 NATO) in 20 round mags(acccurate and killing to about 600 yards)

Ban them thar guns and die.....
As far as socialized medicine...how come all the Canadians come to Florida and PAY doctors to fix thier ills?

yo flyboy, you expecting to fight a war out there? that seems like alot of fire power... here's a question, suppose you are criusing out to your local fishing whole and you get blinded by the sunlight... just at the same time an unsuspecting "large mouth" gator catfisher dude cuts in front of you with his johnson boat. now at impact your boat load of explosives creates a small mushroom cloud, evaporating everyone in sight and roasting a few "crappies" in the old bayou. could happen. YA 'MERICANS! for the record, never owned a gun, never shot a gun, no one i know has ever needed a gun. my family is safe, my life is safe, and i don't need a gun to feel safe. must be a canadian thing. back bacon and beer... mmmmmmmmm. you cookin?

naughtybynature...
First off the ammo WON'T go boom...like you said you nothing about guns...Second, the rifle is for offshore use only and apparently you do not understand why the need for different calibers and weapons...again your lack of knowledge. You are a very dagerous person to other peoples rights and freedoms because of your LACK of knowledge.

Hi SCO!,
I think you catch the idea of my post.
Everybody is making scandal about the fact that an Law Enforcement agent (thats me) carry a gun when he goes boatin´alone or with his wife & kid.
Hopefully I live in texas, this is a big state, people well known their rights & duties, and yes I know around there are some crazy people with guns, but I feel more confortable knowin´that I have a gun with me and also that when Im not at home my wife have a gun to protect herself and our kid.
I,m not paranoid or the kind of person that likes to shot the bad guys. I have a job like everyone else. About Captain S..t, let me tell you sir that i feel shame about you & military and I can speak & shout a lot of crap by this way or another, but i´ll not.
This is a place for people who loves boating & fishing, from now i´ll forget about this matter and about the people who says that having a gun is stupid (remember Im an agent and is supposed i ask the guys to leave their guns at home)I´m in favor of skilled people who carries a gun for protection with a goverment permit; at least they will have a chance to defend themselves when the police, army or navy is not close.
Guns dont kill, People Kill.

Standard calibers for me is a "Snakecharmer" .410 for the saltwater boat, and a Mossberg Defender 12 guage for the freshwater river boat. Lots of people carry big handguns for the bears, but I don't want him/her that close. Alternate between slugs and "OO" buckshot. Both are available in stainless and with a pistol grip and shoulderstrap, the 12 Guage is accessable in an instant.....Any semi-auto seems to be asking for trouble. No matter how meticulous I am about cleaning and oiling, it will pick that instant to jam....

Kev-Alask***

Re: bye bye Boats and Guns???????

anybody seen the boat forum? hehehehe... chillout guys, nothing personal for sure. not questioning your rights about anything. like you said i just don't understand. i'd be the last guy to take away anyone's rights. afterall this whole started with me ranting about people trying to stop me from speeding. so you go shoot things and i'll speed. if we both do our thing in a safe manner, then no one gets hurt and we all can enjoy the things that make us smile. BANG! gottcha. hehhe. by the way, us canadians do luv you mericans. your tourism money feeds my community.

Allright Naughty, maybe we can all just get along. Seriously, you seem to be an entertaining sort of bloke. Spend some time a few thousand miles south for an attitude adjustment. I've spent time up there. That Tofino is a beautiful place.

Re: bye bye Boats and Guns???????

All I can is that "Weapons are for Security" They don't make me feel better than anyone else. It just gives me a since of security while I'm out spending a night on any body of water with my family. Stories the media doesn't print or air is the ones about the criminals robbing and raping the wives and daughters of boaters. This happens everywhere. Nobody ever thought that the terrorists would do what they did on 9/11, but they did. If it wasn't for weapons, America would not be what it is today.

The southern states mandates homeowners own guns, break-ins are lower in those states than others. DUH! If everyone carried a gun on their side, or concealed, crime would be substantially lower. But the majority of us citzens thinks it absurd. However millions get in their cars and drive on the roads across this country. We all depend on the trust of the citizen of the oncoming traffic to stay in their lane. If we have that kind of trust in one another, then there should be that same kind of trust that a good citizen is not going to shoot another good citizen. After all the good citizen is just protecting his family.

If only the framers of the constitution had an amendment allowing us to protect or property as well as our families. Back then it was a common thing to kill off intruders to protect what you worked hard for. It was a common sense law, but now? We just build bigger prisons, tie up the courts and pay more friggen taxes to support the so called Career Criminal. This is Bull$h!t!!

Right on Mayfloat, it's all about citizenry trust. I am still naive enough to trust my fellow citizens in this us(good guys) against them(bad guys) world we live in. When the bad guys outnumber us, then I'll go for banning weapons and save one under the floorboards for myself(Rosie again). I'm not with you on the property protection. I think the framers would have put it in there if they thought we should have that as a constitutional right.

sco you can come and hang on our lakes and breathe our fresh air anytime you like. i'll personally invite you in our cabin for beers and back bacon. you'll just have to check your "piece" at the door. please forgive me for being small minded but i live in a small coastal town where there is really no need for personal protection. i don't even lock my doors! guns are for hunting in my neck of the woods. i've enjoyed many a deer and moose dinner with my friends who do hunt. i honestly have never ever ever felt like i needed a gun for protection. and that goes for any place i have travelled in the world. (and i've been to mexico, some western states, and most of europe). and really guys, i'm just pokin ya, i love passionate conversation. it is the spice of life. keep on postin friends. we haven't beat this one to death yet. now if i just had one of those "cheep" ak-47 things i could kill it right now!

and mayfloat, i did not mean to disrespect americans about the 9/11 thing. that is just screwed up man and you guys have every right to defend yourselves. i will not even go there with you guys because to me that is just too sensitive a topic for a place like this. our thoughts are with the familes and loved ones of the people who lost their lives in the tragedy. i watched the second plane hit the building live on tv. it was a sad day. i can't believe someone or thing would do that.

Re: bye bye Boats and Guns???????

Thus far I've been shot at a few times, once with my wife beside me (in Australia). I've been known to shoot back, missing of course. I've had one bullet dug out of my leg.
I have never had the need to carry a rifle on the boat. I find the boat hook and anchor warp enough to keep unwanted boarders away from me. The sight of a 6'4" Kiwi weighing 240+lbs waving a boat hook about puts anybody off for fear you'll sink their boat. It helps that I know how to act like an ape!
We've only had one occasion to be fearful when after dark black jet ski came around us at anchor and threatened to rape my daughter.
The combination of anchor chain and a 1,000,000 candlepower spotlight soon proved two things. 1 - he could swim. 2 - he was more terrified of us than we were of him. Made a mess of his ski!!
A call to the water police soon discouraged any further behaviour.
No need for guns in boats here.
Ross

TxRiverRat,

That was a good one!! :D :D

I wonder if they thought of reprogramming the detection device to home in on noise instead of heat. That would save the blow boaters for sure.

Don't know about the "go fasters" though with through hulls.

Can't imagine even thinking about owning a gun. Our cops don't even carry them. If you were really loose they'd set some lady cop after you and spray you with pepper. The humiliation would reform you. By comparison we still are on the tail end of the age of innocence, long may it last.
