Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

And since you're kinda familiar with the area, does it make sense that they do all their sea trials on Lake Elsinore? I thought Lake Elsinore was down a ways towards San Diego.
Lake Elsinore and Perris are both in Riverside county. I am surprised they don't go to Lake Perris. There has been some lake level issues there, so that might be why, btu I though it was still OK. Now I'm gonna have to figure that out  Thanks :p :)

Thanks for the input. If there are lake level issues then I would assume they would want to do the test where there is more water to help get the boat on and off the trailer. And from what I've read, those Reinells tend to have a wider beam then most other boats in their class so they sit a bit higher on the trailer so as to clear the wheel fenders. Come to think of it, this should be interesting trying to launch at Lake Mead with it's water level issues.

Willow Beach on the river is going to be your friend when launching/retrieving.
You don't even get the front tires of the tow vehicle wet.:D

You shouldn't have any problems launching at the remaining open marinas at Mead for a while. I read that they're predicting another el nino this winter which should produce another good year of snow pack = more water elevation gains = happy boaters :D

Did that one back when I had my humble ol Bayliner 175. Launch and retrieval was a breeze. The ramp just disappears out from under you. Did the run from Willow to Lake Mojave and back a couple times. It was a blast running through the canyon. We'll definitely be doing those runs once we get our new boat.

We were out at the Las Vegas Bay marina (I think that's right, that the first one you come to if you enter the lake off the 95 just down the hill from Boulder City) and the guys were having to back their trucks like 15 yards into the water just to get enough water under the trailer to float their boats off. But I'll take your word for it. I'll worry about it when the problem arises.

About how long ago was that. The lake has been really coming up fast, sometimes a foot+ a week since mid-May :)

It was down as low as just over 1082' ele. but that snow pack in the Rockies has really done the job for Mead and Powell.

That's Hemmingway....... It's always shallow........I don't care if the water raises another 50', it's still shallow!;)

Hey 12vMan, when's the last time you launched outta the Boulder Basin?
There all shallow regardless of depth.
The only exception is Calville Bay.......Because they dig out their launches or make new ones.:D

You got me there..I last launched out of Calville maybe 8-10 years ago, and I've never launched at the southern ramps.. besides Calville, just Government Wash when it was open... but what about Boulder Harbor as they just did all that work there

Boulder Harbor is way better than Hemenway. Pierutrus is right about Hemenway . . .

I must admit, I has been about a year since we went on that recon run. I honestly didn't recognize the place. I have a feeling that I'll be using Boulder Harbor once we get our boat since that one looked in much better shape. Of course if I head out to Overton Arm then Calville or Echo will be our launch of choice. Thanks for posting that graphic, it's encouraging to see the lake level rise.

One of the best parts about mead is we always have somewhere to launch, high five to all the marinas at mead!!Even after that tidal wave that hit calville bay, they were like open a weak or two later. The south side of the lake has the shallow launching areas while north marinas have deeper ones, calville is way deep and echo is ok too.

Do you consider yourself fun and energetic, and want to help clean up Lake Mead? Check it out: ECO-DIVES AND BOAT RIDES: FUN FALL VOLUNTEER EVENTS AT LAKE MEAD

In case anyone's planning on some lake time soon, there's a Lake Wind Advisory in effect for Lake Mead and Lake Mohave. South wind 10 to 15 MPH with gusts around 25 MPH increasing to 20 to 30 MPH with gusts around 40 MPH.

Yeah, looks like some of that was planned per the "Schedule". But I am guessing this early winter storm and the associated temperature drop has dropped electricity demand dramatically.

I wonder how boating is in black canyon with 4-5k/s water. Bet is it very tricky.

Yea, I've only been up there a couple of times, and never with that low of an outflow. Would be interesting to see it.
