I was watching online during Daytona qualifying. He got burned when the motor blew in his last race when he won the Top Fuel championship, so his second big one in a row. Wonder if NHRA will be making some changes regarding the closed cockpit on top fuelers? There seemed to be some delay getting him out of the car, good thing there was no fire.

I think the smartest thing the NHRA ever did was cut the racing distance down to 1000' for TF and FC but never the less if your going to go 300 MPH and something bad happens the fact that few have died is incredible, I remember when Scott Kalitta died and that was a sad day...

all in all it looks to me like all the safety measures worked in Browns wreck but it is still very scary to watch, one of the reasons I have a hard time watching Drag Racing, seems like your only a few seconds from seeing someone die, which is sad because thats where my roots are albeit I grew up around Hot Boats and remember when Denver Mullins drowned.

Never been so excited in my life as when those top fuel hydro's launch down the liquid quarter mile

I'm lucky to be watching them at all, my old TV (27" with a picture tube and weighs about 100 lbs) died, got a new 40" yesterday and got it working yesterday evening. It's like having these guys in the living room

I did the same a couple months ago except up to 46". you'll be amazed how fast that becomes normal and doesn't seem too large at all. LOL better half wants a 90" LOL

The duels may have been single lane races with 23 cars, but I bet come the D 500 with 43 cars, there will be a lot more 2 lane racing and likely a lot more wrecks.

PS: Those 27" TV's have been fine for me. I lived on a boat and had no problem with the 15" My computer monitor is 24"

Funny the jump from Daytona to Drag racing to Daytona to live feeds to TV's. I think I will make myself a cup of coffee! LOL!

Was on the road visiting West Virginia and the Cabelas store there yesterday. Had a blast even though I didn't get to see the Duals. Did get a new rod to replace the one TSA broke on a trip to FL. Got new line, some new lures, toys and brush for the dog, clothing for the Mrs and the granddaughter to be, ate lunch, etc. Had a stack of gift cards, so I only spent $6.07! Sweet!

The second Duel really was a train race. I think they saw what happened in the first one and didn't want to wreck their 500 car. Can't blame them. Starting positions mean nothing anyway. Now if they race like that in the 500, well..............

I'm probably going to have to tape it since it looks like I'll be plowing. We must have close to 3" already and it's supposed to snow all day. Just light stuff. Sooooooo, I'll have 2 days of plowing when it quits.. Just got a call from a bud who's opening up drives that haven't been plowed this year. He's having a heck of a time. I need to make a pass with my v-plow so he can clear them out.... Rookies! :facepalm:

Sounds like you had a good day at Cabelas, 'speck. Always fun to get new gear!

I think fear of wrecking kept both races tamer than the 500 will be.

Yeah, and there were only two going home, and that was pretty much determined early. I was disappointed that the TV guys weren't more honest about that. Yes, there were few guarantees but 45 - 43 = 2 . . . Soooo, unless a bunch of low level cars finished in the top 16 each race then no one was at risk. Fact is the two slowest cars in each race, were also slow on qual times, and had no points. Minimal drama despite them tracking top 15/16.
