Re: DEER HUNTERS !!! Got buck fever yet? Maybe we should post pics ?

Day 25
My head just isn't in the game anymore. I'm thinking of just packin' it in and calling it a season. Hadn't been hunting for 5 days, so decided to go check on my stand, look for any new tracks along my access road and maybe scout out the southern part of the WMA. On the way over, I saw a roadsign stating that there was a prescribed burn in progress. Hmmm.
Got signed in and learned that 2 more bucks were taken since my last outing. Don't know if they were taken by using dogs or not though.
Went over to check my stand and there were 4 trucks parked in the area where I usually leave my Jeep. Crowded. Walked on in and saw another hunter coming back up a split from my trail and we waved to one another.
The stand was okay, but I really didn't feel like staying. The gun range was open and there was all kinds of racket. That really detracts from the overall hunting experience for me, so I left. I did see a single set of recent tracks going in one direction at the cutover point where the deer cross my access road. I also saw a set of recent hunter tracks going down my road as well.
So, I headed to the truck, then drove down to the southern part of the WMA... the same area where the controlled burn was taking place. I was thinking that I might be able to hunt the downwind side of the burn area, which is directly across the street from where the last burn was done a month ago. I figured that the fire might move the deer and make them more accessible. Got to the area and the smoke was pretty bad and I realized that I'd have to drive a mile or two back up the road, then walk for miles toward the fire and smoke. Nah. On my way out, I passed 1/2 dozen other trucks with hunters who apparently had the same idea. Crowded again.
So there ya have it... I'm starting to feel like I'm just wasting my time and hoping that some kamikaze deer will cross my path. LOL
Smoke from the fire over the area that had been previously burned.
