Re: Glen-L 21' Canyon Cruiser - Aluminum

Sounds like a good plan...that should be a great fishing rig:)

You will be able to pilot the boat blindfolded too...with the gps Minn Kota steering:D

Yeah, the new iPilot is a lot better than the AutoPilot. The later tended to loose it's heading and start spining you in circles, that was a pain. This iPilot uses GPS instead and is supposed to be a lot more stable. They have a feature that holds your position just as if you were anchored. That ought to be interesting.

I forgot to mention that after a lot of thought I decided not to go with paint or vinyl to match the truck. I talked to a lot of folks and the bare aluminum with a coat of Sharks Hyde is the way to go so that's what it will be.

I'm also going to wait until I see how the Minn-Kota works out before I buy the Merc Pro-Kicker. I have to remind myself that this is a much smaller boat than I'm used to.

Re: Glen-L 21' Canyon Cruiser - Aluminum

Been a while since I updated you all... I have a delivery date now.. May 12th the new boat arrives at the dealer and I'll pick it up on the 14th. I've been anxious to order the Merc Pro-Kicker, Minn-Kota Terrova with i-pilot and the Lowance HDS7 GPS/Fishfinder. Somehow I've managed to not pull that trigger and jynx the whole thing. Looks like I'll have about 30,000.00 in it when it's all said and done.

.......................

I'll post pics of the new boat as soon as I get it home and then I'll post pic's about installing the various rigging I have to do. That should help somebody I would think. I think I can do most of it blind folded by now. HA...

Until then, you all have a good one.

Sschefer just a quick note to let you know that some of us will be waiting for a full report on your new ride. Bring your camera and your laptop if you can. I bet your getting excited. GLG

Boats on the truck now comming down from your neck of the woods. Should be here on Tuesday according to the latest. I was expecting it on the 12th but it didn't make it.

I did get the Lowrance HDS-8 with Structure Scan. I'm waiting on the hot maps premium, the Satelite weather/radio module and the SonicHub media server. I've got it setup on the bench and it's loaded with all the features that we've been wanting for years. Structure scan takes fish finding to a whole new level.

I'll do a step by step on the install later next week after I get the boat.

No boat yet. Waiting patiently for a phone call saying it's ready for pickup. I did get the Lowrance SonicHub and LWX-1 Satellite weather/radio module in. Those of you that might be ordering these items in the future, the SonicHub is running on a peer-peer network NEMA 2000. You'll need to order at least the LEI network starter kit and I ordered a couple of extra terminating resistors.

I noticed it wasn't Ethernet when I read the spec's and ordered the backbone kit. It hasn't arrived yet so I haven't got it all up and running yet. The LWX-1 is ethernet and you can use one of the three ports on the switch that's built into the StructureScan module. Don't order another ethernet switch, you probably won't need it.

All the other gauge accessories, (fuel flow, etc.,) run off NEMA 2000. I'm trying to get some info on the Merc SmartCraft since it will plug in also. Using the SmartCraft would eliminate all the dash gauges but I'll keep a battery level gauge.

Now if the boat would just arrive I'd be really happy.

I think I'm going to be sick tomorrow......  Yep, the boat came in...:D:D:D They're rigging it today and I'll go get it tomorrow (Fri). Something told me I was going to have a great day today! If I get the Lowrance stuff in tomorrow, I'll see about splashing her on Saturday. Lake Sonoma, Ca will be the location. Early morning splash (around 6:30am) to avoid the crowds on the first splash. I'm going to try for 5 hours of break-in time so I'll be packing a lunch. Let me know if anyone want's to join me so I can throw in a extra Sandwich....;)

Great news, your ship has come in. Now if I had a ticket for the hockey game and some plane money, I would be there in a flash to help you brake the motor in.:):):)

I wish I had tickets too... I'm pretty sure they were hunting for an open dirt road accross the border. I had the same probelm getting General wood working equipment down here. Nonetheless, it's here so I'm jacked.

Re: Glen-L 21' Canyon Cruiser - Aluminum

I picked the boat up yesterday morning. It's everything I expected and nothing more.. That's a good thing believe it or not. I'm very happy to finally have it in my driveway. I almost started laughing at the little 60hp Merc on this thing and then I realized how I was comparing it with the much bigger V-6's I'm used to. It does look tiny in comparison, I hope it's got enough poop to do the job.

I started rigging it as soon as I got home in hopes of splashing it this morning. By 9:00pm I had almost all the Navigation system installed and up but even with my work lights I couldn't see well enough to finish it up.

I took some pics when I first got it home and will take some of the HDS install today. Photobucket is not being friendly this morning so hopefully I can get them uploaded later.

Congrats on the new arrival Steve. If I didn't have baseball all weekend with the kids, I would take you up on that sandwich.

When and if I ever get a boat in the water, I plan on going with some items you are (iPilot & HDS), so take plenty pics and give us a review. I'm tempted to go with MinnKota because it has control options on paired up downriggers, but I prefer Lowrance from what I gathered so far.

Looking forward to the splash pics. The ultimate Christmas in May. New boat with new accessory toys.....oh and don't forget, new truck.

All hooked up ready to roll to the lake in the morning --

94 quarts of pure bliss.

The HDS-8, Structure Scan, Weather/Radio Module, SonicHub, all installed. The SonicHub isn't functional yet, I'm waiting on the network kit.

This boat is smaller than my MonArk but actually has more interior room and a broader beam at 80". It's not a big boat by any means but it feels big.

Re: Glen-L 21' Canyon Cruiser - Aluminum

Just got the weather report and it's supposed to be windy as heck tomorrow. I'm still going but if it's bad I'm not beating this thing up on the dock. The water is so high right now that the break wall isn't there and the waves of the main lake body just nail the ramp docks. I am going up there but a splash isn't guaranteed.

You can always launch at the marina and hit Warm Springs side of the lake. The marina ramp is protected and Warm Springs is not as choppy as the main lake. Good thing is, the lake is so full you don't have to worry about those demon stumps. Have fun.

Re: Glen-L 21' Canyon Cruiser - Aluminum

Your right, I didn't even think about the Marina. I wonder if they've filled in any of those pot holes. I'll try heart attack hill first and if it's nasty I'll go over to the Marina.

Funny thing, when the lake is way down and the Marina ramp is out of the water and unusable they don't have the money to fix it but when the waters up and business is good, they can't fix it.

On the bright side, speaking of Marina's, this boat has a 35 gallon gas tank and that little 60 sips gas so I should never find myself having to fill up at a Marina again... Yahoo.... more money for bait and tackle.
