Increasing Fuel Prices

Will they effect your boating pleasure? Time spent boating? They were forecasting $5 per gallon before some of the Middle East started rioting. Now I bet it will be over $5 in many parts of the country. I don't think we can imagine how much $5 will hurt. Food prices will jump. Everything delivered by truck, plane, ship will leap in price. I hate to be gloomy but this is looking more likely every day.

Boating is one of the last things I'm intending to give up, even if it means cutting back somewhere else to pay for the gas. We're towing the boat 500 miles to Florida, it used to cost $80 for gas, last year it was $100, this year maybe $120, so we can skip one meal at the Cracker Barrel along the way and make up the difference. I can imagine the gas at the marina's is going to get pretty painful, but we gotta have it! Good Luck!

I thought the pump malfunctioned the other day.Ive not spent that much to fill any car/truck ive ever owned!!My 4 stroke will run 4 or 5 fishin trips on a 12 gal tank but my truck will kill me to tow it to the ramps!Ive heard the price of almost everything,FOOD, will go up w the $ for gas/diesel.A wealthy friend is stocking up on canned dry foods,and thousands of other kinds of survival gear!

It is pretty troubling when you really think about what higher fuel costs will mean. I don't think many people realize how many products are made with petroleum and at least in the U.S., how much stuff is shipped.

We'll still take the boat out, but I don't think I'll pull the kids on the tube as much. The money I may save by trying to take it easy on the water will help with the cost of getting to the lake as it's a 50 mile drive each way for us.

It takes the fun out of everything!!
If it stays on this track we will just be boating on the river 15 min from the house
no road trips to some nicer lakes
ALL THIS OVER SPECULATION!
Is it me or does the fuel guage drop twice as fast right now?

It cost $90 to fill the truck the other day. It took two transactions to do it since the pump didn't go that high.
I can't wait to fill the Starcraft which has a tank that's more than twice as big as the truck.

I'll still go out a few times this year. I only have a 4 hoarse Jonny on my boat, and it goes more than fast enough for me and my family.
However, the fuel in my 1\2 ton suburban to tow it to the lake might make a difference in which lakes we go to. Since, gas here is always .10 higher than the national average.

I will be running my 5.5hp kicker more frequently if gas tops $4 again, and it's pretty close now.

(there's no inflation/decline in purchasing power of our dollars though, just ask Bernanke, he'll tell ya)

Well, we've got a triple whammy. Not only do I have a 45 minute drive to the boat, both of our vehicles get crappy mileage, and the boat has 2 thirsty V8 engines.......
As in the last couple years, when I go to the boat it'll be for the weekend, and the boat will stay within a few miles of the homeport. I also take advantage of 'trawler speed' economy versus 'full throttle ahead'.

The one thing we do each week is to talk with the guys at the bulk plant and find out when they are making up a batch of marked fuel, For us marked fuel has no road tax and so we save a little more on top of the purchase from the bulk plant.

We have increased at least 5 cents a day for the last week around here and I don't have good gas mileage vehicles, they don't work out to good where I live! I thought we were lucky, until a week ago, we were still at $2.74 a gallon, now when I went into town yesterday, it was at $3.22, so it is going to be a summer of choices!

That's one of the best ideas out there. Many states offer the same discount if the fuel is used in boats, off-road vehicles or farm equipment.

Fuel is really controlled by our government & they now want it to be higher so it will be.

Political speculation and untrue, we pay the lowest fuel taxes in the developed world. Look it up. I am only responding like this to point out political stuff that will get this thread closed. What I am stating about taxation is factual. Oil is a global commodity - QC

Some may remember Diesel was always cheaper than Gas since it was cheaper to produce. Why isn't it still cheaper to produce or is it?

Doesn't matter if fuel has road tax either since if you buy from marina it is always higher or it is here.

As for me I will continue to do what ever I can afford to. I don't smoke, drink alcohol or take drugs so those are big expenses I don't have which allows me to spend on other things.

I will probably hit the lake the same amount of time, just won't cruise from one end to the other just because ... more drifting around.

Just got back from Ghana ... there it is $4.80 per gallon (and minimum wage is $2.70 per DAY)! Really hurts there!

I will not go crazy because of the fuel prices. I have no control over them and just a slight bit of budget shuffle will move the funds around. I guess it comes from the been there done that file. A bit less WOT in the boat ans as mentioned above..... a bit more of the kicker use.

With each increase I see the value of my econ-o-box car rising.
