Re: oddjobs troll returns

we will see. so far its not looking good. as national gaudsmen are typically weekend warriors, as in not permmanant active duty, I wonder where all the extra troops are coming from and still leave engough for deployment in Iraq and most lilky Iran as well as keep enough troops and equipment in their districts to support the state functions they were designed for.
last I looked the state national gaurd was just that. was not a full time permmant army.
ya gonna rotate them outta Iraq and into the southwest dessrert? man thats gonna be a Morale and retention booster.
for those that have never played or worked in that area of the world its absolutly beautiful the first day and by the end of the week its a total heck hole.
everything there including the weather wants to bite sting or kill. there is even a type of cactus that can"shoot" its thorns if ya get to close.
for those that have never delt with scorpions or cactus thorns, much less mesquite thorns, they are nasty.
couple that with the fact they cannot enforce law but only support the border patrol agents and you will soon have a very demoralized gaurdsman.
but like I say, we will see the speech tonight. who knows W may add some more words to websters. I think he is up to 10 now.
for those who have never seen a mesquite or priclky pear thorn think of a 2-3" wooden needle with a toxin than can puncture a steel belted radial. only the cactus is barbed and very difficult, not to mention painful, to remove. however prickly pears are tasty and make good jelly :) .

I can already see all the guardsmen's families running to hire illegal aliens so they can pick up the slack that is caused by the absence of family members.
The real purpose of this whole deal is the same as the war in Irak :Speed up the starving of the beast before we get kicked out of office. It may make things so bad that it will go beyond the point of no return. Then the neo conservative movement will have won.

Re: oddjobs troll returns

I'm not sure what the terrain has to do with national security, but I'm sure the guard is up to it.

The border patrol has been on the border for years, and they aren't all sitting in the nurse's office with ouchies.

I don't think that making the guardsmen happy with their location assignment is a concern of the United States Government. They issue a task and the guard is commanded to see it through, whether it's pulling bodies out of a national disaster area or watching for midnight walkers among the cactus.

Several posters have complained, but I don't see a solution from any of them.

KRS has not played in the desert at night much nor been treatred for the infectious "oucies" that result.
20 years ago or so in the reagan admin it had a solution, now I dont see one.
does something have to be done? yes, but not any pandering 6 year into it kneejerk stuff.
knee jerk got us into the current debacle.
and for ouchies, I was chashing a rabbit some years back and jumped a log and had a 3" or so mesquite thorn punture my boot sole and piece the bone in my right heel. had to be surgically removed and the infection was nasty.
what I am trying to say is almost all my friends that quit active duty and entered the guard then have spent 1 year or better in Iraq are tired, they have no desire to rotate to southwestern US. they all did their active duty sacrifice and now did it again.
none complain but most will leave when there current enlistment is up.
one did 2 tours in vietnam and has been texas air national guard for almost 15 years, he is a medic, got a wife, had a job, got kids, one graduated while he was in the mideast. he is done.
he says its not what he signed up for.
he says if he wanted to remain active duty he would have never left the army in the first place.
the gaurd servive in king georges time was reserved for the elite that did not wish to fight, unless it was in a bar, the gaurd today is tasked with taking up the slack wherever in the world.
however most did not join to be deployed 12 months or more at a time.
so sooner or later a decision has to be made.
and KRS the age requiremnt to join the Guard is rather high, have ya chatted with your recuiter ?

A few of my neighbors returned from Iraq last week don think they would be to agreeable to going into another desert .

Festus ready to welcome home the 220th
By Matthew Hathaway
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
Friday, May. 05 2006

FESTUS

The Missouri National Guard confirmed Thursday that the 220th Engineer Company
will return to Jefferson County about 10 a.m. Saturday.

For more than a week, National Guard officials had promised the soldiers'
return this weekend, but they were reluctant to set an exact time. Now, friends
and relatives of the returning troops are springing into action with
welcome-home plans that have been months in the making.

No rodbolt, I haven't talked with my national guard recruiter.

I'm 32, have heel spurs due to flat feet and I have had bone tumors.

I did spend plenty of time in the desert, at night, near the border. Picked up my share of illegals both alive and dead. Searched for them too, when the coyote leaved a group for dead.

I'll admit, night vision and thermal imaging sure helps with sidestepping the cactus :)

Re: oddjobs troll returns

Ok not trying to start a fight here but give me a friggin break ........those poor guardsmen will have take their lives into their hands when having to deall with the big, bad, nasty cactus......Oh and the terrable heat....... And ewwww the bugs............Come on get real......They are trained to survive in Iraq where there are bigger, badder nastier things trying to hurt them. Like evil people with knives.....guns......bombs.....and there probably are cactus there too. Now just my opinion if Jaun and his 10 year old son, along with the rest of his family cross that desert to get here they are tuff enough to brave those Cacti. Our "weekend Warriors" should be OK......If our guardsmen are afraid to do their jobs cuz its too hot and uncomfortable in the desert and those cactus are so dangerous.......they should have gotten different jobs. Oh I find it funny on how when Bush doesnt do something about a problem the Left crys " oh boo hoo he's not doing anything" and when he does do something "Oh boo hoo its not what I wanted or "its not enough" I cant beleive there would be one thing that any of the typical liberal would be happy with. "its not enough" or "its too much" same ole same ole.........I bet if we packed up and left Iraq today they would cry that he didnt finish the job........

I dont have a problem with the troups being in our desert, I have a problem with them being there and not being able to perform the job just as the border petrol should be doing.

One question Mike, prior to the new action taken, did you think there was enough being done regarding border security?
