Re: What do you consider as 'Rich'?

well i consider myself rich and poor... I made 80k this year and i live in the glorious state of new jersey, I have a 3 bedroom home, small 2 beautiful boys and a fantastic wife.. My bills are usually paid on time and i have my boat to keep me and my family happy during the spring/summer and in that sense im rich.. But even making a fair income im still struggling to pay everything ontime and put money away.. in the end i feel money doesnt matter as long as you can support your family and keep getting up day after day to make that paycheck... Happiness is key for me..

Having money in the bank puts a smile on my face... :)
What good is money if you have no one to spend it with. ??.

It makes you a lonely old man with money. :(

I have a wife, and she can be a pro at spending money. We just got home from the mall a little bit ago. I was a good hubby and walked around and carried her bags for her. :D

What would happen if she were taken away from you ???.

By a car accident / cancer / home robbery gone bad and so on

Then what, Would you still be happy with your money ??.

Not so serious answer: Yes, I would go out and buy another one...lmao!!

Serious answer: God forbid that anything would happen to her... I wouldn't even want to think about what my life would be like without her.

Re: What do you consider as 'Rich'?

Money does make me happy. For others it may be donuts, a comfortable chair, or a nice lawn. Having money in the bank puts a smile on my face... :)

Ha ha all those things make me happy. I have to say, I'm not necessarily happier with money but I am happy my kids don't need to think about it as I did when I was their age. My mom always talked about being broke, literally every single day of my childhood while my dad worked two jobs. What makes me happy is being a good provider to my family. Having removed the worry about the ability to pay my bills if I lost my job frees up my thoughts and puts me at ease. There was a time when we lived paycheck to paycheck or literally night to night when I worked for tips in the early years of our marriage during college. I think what money does for you is know that although you don't have certain things, new Escalade, large boat or whatever, you know you could if you wanted to. I prefer understatement over overt displays of ones wealth.

Your right... there is a lot more to life than money.

Money isn't the only thing that makes me happy... My most treasured possession is the memories that we make through life... some day that may be all that we have left, and nobody can take that away from me. My friends make fun of me for taking so many pictures while were boating, riding mx bikes, mountain biking, etc, etc... but this is what life is about, living from one smile to the next.

Re: What do you consider as 'Rich'?

A lot of good points made in this thread. I think it's interesting how some have more literally answered the original question and how some have gone more along the happiness route. Both are valid.

Also, I think 642mx's responses have been perfectly valid in the context of this thread and not bragging. I could not even close to pay cash for 1 mediocre new car let alone a couple. So that is quite "richer" than I.

My 3 favorite comments: The one about having enough money that it works for you--------the one that said to be able to afford all of what you need and most of what you want------the one about having X% left AFTER paying all the bills taxes.

I do pretty well but I'm chained to this desk all day every day and it's really getting old. However, I am making 30% more now than I was 2 years ago which really softens the blow. I did give up some vacation time, and a great amount of flexibility for that money and there are times when I wonder if it was the right decision. Course then payday rolls around......:p

I consider someone to be rich if they own a boat powered by multiple supercharged motors of over 500 cubic inches each (see the OSO - OffShore Only - forums). If you've only got 8 (or even worse, 6 or 4 or less cylinders!!!) then you ain't rich!

Pretty much if you're posting on this board, you aren't rich ...... ;)

Ain't that the truth! I kinda laugh when someone with a real upscale boat posts on here for the first time and it's like............crickets.

What if a guy has multiple 12 cylinder, 2400 hp turbo and supercharged engines? I wonder if they would be here too.

I don't know about everybody else...but I know many humble rich/wealthy folks.

God Bless the Rich and Poor!
