I am working on getting the 1967 80Hp Evinrude setup on my 16ft SS. I have the simplex controls but no cables. So how do I measure to get the right cables for my boat?

Ok, my motor does not have a tilt tube. I have one of these brackets I dug up but it does not clamp down tight on the cable I think I need some form of tube to clamp to and the cable to thread into. that make any sense?

The next doo dad is this little bracket of sort. There are 2 of them mounted up in the bow on each side. Any ideas on there function?
So my new to me 1978 16ft. SS is throwing me some loops. So I will post a few pics with whats it do questions and how can I make this work . This first pic is this little channel thing mounted to transom. Has the fish finder sonar mounted to it. Is this a factory item?
